Well this is a clean install from a new Vista disc. Instead of the regular OEM that come along with mine T61, I decided to do a fresh install of a Vista 64bit that I bought from school. However, when I got through Installing Updates, I got the following error message:

"Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot procced."

I google some stuff, but most of those are about upgrade from XP or so, which does not apply in this case. This is through a clean format/deletion of current HD. Also another thing I noted is that The Hidden Recovery did not show up while I attempt to setup the new vista...may be something is corrupted. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone have any input on this case, and whether or not I should reinstall the whole OS from Lenovo Recovery DVD then attempt a clean install afterward as it seemed my Rescue and Recovery setup is corrupted or so. Thanks in advance for the inputs.

Make a set of recovery discs and delete all your partitions and do a complete format. Then install Vista.

Weird thing is I try to do a repair with the new Vista disc, system reboot, said original installation was corrupt. So I went ahead and reboot again, and this time attempt another clean, fresh installation with the new Vista 64 and it went through fine without the error message. Weird indeed...somehow, I got a feeling that the hidden recovery partition is still on there...Mine HD went from 160gb listed to 142.7gb and now with Vista install...around 124gb.

I would start all over. Use the guide in my sig to assist you. Unless you really think you are going to get some use out of the hidden partition, you should just use diskpart to delete it, then during the clean install delete ALL partitions, then create one new one. This is all explained in the F.A.Q. section at the bottom of the guide and in Step 3.12

Actually I end up deleting the Hidden Partition afterward using Acronis Disk Director. Then I use the "Merge" function to join the partition into one and it's good to go. So for those who wonder about which program allow u to delete Hidden Partition after clean installation, acronis disk director is one of them (I think there's a trial period as well that you can use)
