After having been using a Dell laptop for the last 21 months, I've finally returned to a Thinkpad. The Dell was reaching maximum entropy, and all the repairs I did weren't going to stop it. So in the course of shopping for a replacement, I found a deal on eBay that I couldn't resist. A shiny, mint condition R50p: 1.7 GHz Centrino, 15" 1600 x 1200 UXGA, Bluetooth, WiFi, 512 MB RAM, 128 MB ATI video, 40 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, 9-cell battery, DVD burner, the works, for $1065 shipped. And man, is it nice to be back. The build quality is no contest, but I'm most shocked by the heat and sound. My Inspiron was a P4 furnace, cranking out heat by the bushel, and needed a hovercraft fan to keep from frying itself. This thing runs so cool and so quiet I barely even know that it's on. It actually runs cooler and quieter than the 266 MHz Thinkpad 600 that was my first laptop.

LOL - I'm glad the Inpiron lasted as long as it did for you, but you're in a much better place now. Congrats and good luck.

ha! Awesome, I'm glad you found a deal to make you happy -- I know you're a fan of the UXGA screen and that's a little harder to find with ThinkPads.

I know what you're saying, if I go a day without using a ThinkPad when switching it for say a laptop I'm reviewing it's always a relief to "come back".

    RIP Dell Inspiron 8200.
