Any 750m or 750m sli gaming benchmarks yet?! Hopefully people or companies will be releasing those soon!!
-
I think juliant is getting the laptop today. Awaiting to see those benchies after he sets everything up
Getting mine Thurs/Fri (single 750m), I'll be posting some too. -
Awesome, thanks for the response. Im really in a bind, Im seriously about to order the 650msli one through amazon, but man oh man I want to know how games like Tomb Raider Bioshock Infinite and BF3 compare!

Ok. To give you guys a brief idea.
First of all I got the system today and I was so happy to notice that it was in perfect shape, until I turned it on. But guess what, no display. What do you mean by no display?!
You can hear something in the background like it is running but the screen does not come on. Defective display (Very nice Lenovo, keep it up!).
So what I did? I connected to an external display before turning it on (My Alienware has HDMI in connection), but still no go.
Finally opened it completely, including the display, reseated the cables and the screen finally came on (partly, because exact half of it looks like you are seeing things washed out). I though, don't tell me that the GPU also has issues.
Once windows loaded, I connected to the alienware and there is no line or anything funny on that screen. All that I can say, from what I have tried when I turned it on (back to open pieces to see if I can really fix that screen, though I already requested a replacement), windows score from 6.7 650m SLi to a single 750m went up to 7.2. That is something...
I have also played the latest NFS Most wanted on single screen at 1080P and full settings and it was very very smooth. It looks like this card is really a beast. I will try to meddle a bit longer with the screen and if I am unable to fix anything more, I will do some benchmarks, pack it and send it back to Lenovo.
It looks like my bad luck. I wish I could keep it until I get the replacement so that if there are any issues with the replacement, I can swap them with this system...
P.S. I've even spoke to the tech support to send me a LCD replacement and they refused... -

Hope your replacement is 100% perfect. Mine shipped today with delivery on Friday. Hopefully it sticks to that estimate. The Windows score is promising. I know all I have read is people dumping on the 750m saying its a rebadged 660 and all. But since the Y400 never came with the 660M, its still an upgrade from the 650M. SLI with the 750M should scream! Did you get the ultrabay GPU too, even though it is or might be the 650m?
-
-
. Hopefully you can get it working and not have to wait for a replacement.
You only got a graphics WEI of 6.7 for the 650m in SLI? It must not have been able to use both cards during the test. I believe my graphics WEI score was 6.6, which went up to 7.4 presently, after overclocking the single gpu. -
Good news guys, notebookcheck.net is showing that a GTX 750m sli is equivalent to a single GTX 675MX. That's pretty damn impressive. That's equivalent to a desktop GTX 560ti.
-
Well, this is a little bit irritating. It's one thing to wait for Haswell or the GT750M, but the model listing on the Canadian Lenovo shop (for employee friends and family) have completely changed.
They're offering the GT750m in SLI configuration with 16gb of ram for $1100 CDN.
I just purchased a Y500 with a single GT650m and a DVD-Rom in Ultrabay for $900 and then the Ultrabay GT650M for SLI and the 170W adapter for $200. So, $1100CDN total.
Minor irritation, though I've only had this machine for roughly 2 weeks. They'd probably return it for me, but the hours I've spent configuring it already were annoying... But, I guess having an extra (smaller) 120W adapter and DVD-Rom have already proven their worth for installing Windows and being more portable. And I likely don't need 16gb RAM, it just stings a bit as it's only been two weeks. Give me a month or two!
On a side note, they're offering 8gb GT650m non-SLI models now with a *gasp* "2-button industry standard touch pad', for a lot more than the 16gb GT750m SLI model hahaha. -

Is that good? I honestly dont know what that means haha. I only know in game fps I guess!
Also good news about the notebookcheck statement. Juliant, hows the screen issue going? Any luck resolving it? -
-
And here is the vantage score NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor,LENOVO INVALID score: P12344 3DMarks (performance). Please remember that there is nothing overclocked in this system).
The screen issue is a problem and Lenovo refuses to send me just the screen. It will take me like 5 minutes to have it replaced.
Below are few pictures of the screen (so that you guys know what I am talking about).
Also this system comes shipped with the 311.27 Nvidia driver.
I will install now the latest driver and give it another try with the benchmarks.Attached Files:

Regarding the driver, I cannot change it. There is no support for other drivers, except the one shipped with this system. I am really impressed on the performance of this card. I cannot wait for the bay to be sold with this card...
Update:
I just played DiRT Showdown and the average frames with advanced lighting off (everything else maxed out) ~39 fps -
You sending yours back to Lenovo today? That's a bummer, you should try to get expedited return shipping. When I returned mine, they did it via ground from CA to NC.
Hope to run the same tests plus some gaming benchies this Friday. It's going to be a good weekend. -

hi guys, I've been stalking this notebook for a while now and pretty much decided that I'm going to pull the trigger as soon as I find a safe (read: with warranty) way to have an 750m SLI model shipped to where I live (Italy is the third world of performance laptops, sigh. Also, local Lenovo doesn't even know what laptops they are shipping...). One thing I've been wondering about: is it possible to disable the second GPU from within Windows without removing the ultrabay to save power?

I have a friend that works in the field for the screen and I am meeting him tomorrow. He is getting me the same screen but matte finish
If anyone interested, please PM me and I will let you know the cost. By the way, the screen resolution for Y400 cannot be changed (the screen will be exactly as the one you get it from the Lenovo but with 2 options, matte finish or glossy).
I will let you guys know tomorrow after I install the new screen, how it looks and maybe post some pictures (though it will not be noticeable). But atleast to let you all know how it looks. I can check with him if he can get for Y500 also and both glossy or matte finish if anyone interested. -
Awesome, good luck!! If you do get a chance, any sort of gaming benchmarks you can offer? I know its asking a lot, but if you get bored!
-
what i would like to find out is that since 750m already has gpu boost, can it be overclocked? i'm really confused about this gpu boost. i hope they are not the same with oc. a comparison between 650m and 750m temps under the same clock would be very revealing.
-
Is it just me or is this forum un-intuitive with that feature?
-
I need to find a guy here in California that can do that for me. I have a new patio outside and would love to hang out there with my laptop but that glossy screen makes it difficult to see anything. How much would your fiend charge for one? -
^^^ You need a minimum of 5 posts in order to be able to PM other users. Yes he can get the matte finish at 1080p as well. Also he provides a 3 years warranty for it. But it all depends where each one lives because it involves the cost of the shipment + I will like to insure it to make sure that it will reach in one piece
Let me see first tomorrow how it works and if there are no issues and I will definitely get back with posting.
As per the temperature of the GPU, I found it a little bit hotter than the 650m, probably about max 5 degrees higher in some cases. But it cools down very fast. I think they have used better cooper pipes on this system (quality). -
Can he get a touchscreen?
This would be my dream computer if it had one. I would even sacrifice it staying glossy.
-
I cannot talk about the cost of the LCD because I did not get mine first. If I know that it works for sure, I will definately let you guys know the details. All that I know is that he is a very reliable source, I had once a problem with my LED Samsung TV and he saved me $$$ by getting the right parts.
So, please wait until tomorrow and I will get back to you all on this. I have also changed the 'red' keyboard on mine as I believe it looks childish (My opinion, no offence). I bought the Y480 model's keyboard from ebay for about $20 and it works perfect. You just have to remove the 'screw' connectors at the back of the keyboard with a tool or something (but be gentle) and it easily locks into place without any problem. Lights work, all buttons work and cables have the same connectors. -
So, no go for touch screen (get a wacom tablet as an accessory if you are really into it). -
I didn't want to go for the 15" because it becomes too big and too bulky... I wanted a portable power... Cannot wait for lenovo to have the external bay ready for sale.
P.S. What I have forgot to mention. Yes, while gaming this system gets really warm. In games like Crysis 2 expect about 75 degrees, you may need a cooling pad or something. Even with the dual vent does not make much difference, except that it keeps the keyboard cool. -
Juliant, forgive me if this is a silly question, but is it a Y 500 or Y 400 that you received and benchmarked? I was under the impression that this thread was about the Y500, but it seems that you have a Y400 based on what you've said/your forum signature.
On another note, does it even matter which model it is, considerin that it's the same processor and GPU?
Thanks! -
I have the Y400 not the Y500. It does matter because of the size and the screen resolution (other then that, the Y500 has the 'extra' numpad and I think the keyboard looks slitly smaller because of that). The Y400 comes with the screen of 14" and a resolution of 1366X768 while the Y500 comes with 15.6" and 2 types of screens: 1366X768 and 1920X1080. Both models have glossy screen.

yes, the y400 seemed interesting but I have no idea what a sub-900p display is doing on a performance machine.

I have the Samsung ultra with 1080P IPS at 13.3” and yes is very clear. All that I can say is that 768P screen of Y400 is not too shabby at all. It’s quite clear and visible. Nothing to complain about… I actually do not mind the screen at all. Now when I will get the matte one, it will be even a better deal.
I played NSF on external screen of alienware at 1080 through the HDMI port of Y400 and it was maxed out. It was very smooth. I think that is why I went with this model, because of the screen size.
To tell you the truth, Y500 with even 750M SLi and a 1080P, I wouldn’t consider it a gaming laptop. If you want a true gaming machine, you should go for alienware or clevo / sager, not this toy -
-
Cost is my issue. Weight as well. I also wanted something that I could potentially use in a business setting where I wouldn't sick out like a sore thumb. You get a lot of interesting looks using an alienware in an airport while wearing a suit.

Its the same with me, I sure don't want to carry a really flashy and bulky laptop to class or to public places at college. I want something slim and elegant. Which the Y500 fits perfectly. -
I am a road-warrior that spends a lot of time in hotel rooms at night, after business meetings all day.
A plain black Lenovo Y500 (with the keyboard lighting turned off) blends in just fine in a corporate board room.
I would never be able to bring a flashy notebook (e.g. Alienware) or a generic Taiwanese OEM notebook with a brand nobody has ever heard of (e.g. Clevo, Sager) into a corporate board room.
JUST purchased a Lenovo Y500, bad timing?
