So after 20 years of drinking java at my desk and never spilling anything into kb much less a laptop I indeed did it. I swung around and hit my full cup spilling the entire contents into my brand new X300. My first reaction would be much like everyone else’s. A slew of choice words all combined into one long sentence that child should never ever hear.
I then killed the power, yanked cat5,vid cable, usb cable out and following that I titled the lappy to the right rear which drained all of the once tasty java all over my desk, which at that point I could care less about. As a side note I suffered a stroke few months back which has made my leg almost worthless so I walk with a cane, so seeing me move down the hallway fast as I could without my cane to "save" my poor new friend would have been a site to behold. I made it to the bathroom in which I rinsed out the lappy with water. Yes I pored water on a lappy. I got all the java out and the color became clear. I turned the water off, grabbed a towel and went back to my desk. I laid the lappy about 15" from my space heater to get rid of the water. Hour later she was back up and running like nothing had ever happened. No water/java made it past the KB. I got lucky VERY lucky but then again that’s why IBM put drain holes into these for the sole reason. This is just a reminder that stupid can
hit anyone at any time. Be ready .)

Wow, nice work! When I spilled Coke on my T60 about a year ago, I didn't think quite as logically. I pulled the power cord, turned it off, and tried to get it to drain out, but.... I didn't flush it with water. So, when it had dried, my keyboard (and who knows what else) was sticky as hell. Thanks to my accidental damage warranty, however, I got a new keyboard for free.

Also, sorry about your leg. =/

Lenovo should use your story for a marketing campaign. This is one of their greatest features yet they don't really talk about it like they could.

Imagine if Mac Book's had this feature. Everyone and their 100 year old grandma would know about how great and revolutionary it is.

I remember seeing the drain holes marketed in an ad back during the Olympics (although it may have been for the Ideapad, not Thinkpad). But your right, they definitely don't talk about these features much. I also don't think they have updated the "Legends of the Thinkpad" videos in a few years.

Glad to hear your x300 survived. I know my x200 tablet has this feature as well, but I am in no rush to try it out.

Years ago I had a POS Dell that got destroyed because my roommate at a summer camp spilled coke in it (the computer still turned on, but the keyboard was totally inoperable and the repair bill would have been >$1000).

Ya know doubt Paul. Frankly I was pretty well shocked. If I had done that to one of my Dells it would have been toast. SO in celebration I ordered another X300 for one of my consultants. I'm sold .)

My friend lost his expensive (but cheap quality) ASUS gaming laptop to a very minor spill. Hurray for Thinkpads!

My friend also lost his Asus laptop, little spill on the keyboard and it's gone. Unfortunately it is not covered by warranty because of carelessness. The bill is around SGD 1800. He decided to buy a new laptop instead of repairing it.
