Jon,
You're not a stealth marketer for IBM, are you...?![]()
Anyway, just wanted to post to say you've pretty much sold me on the X200 Tablet. The combination of the excellent screen, the stylus input, the current ability to go up to a 320GB HDD (storage is key for me), the docking station, and general size and form factor all work for me.
I'm just waiting to absorb the cost of a few Christmas expenses before I pull the pin.
Thanks for all the valuable input, suggestions, and helpful tips you post every day!

Actually, you can go to 500GB currently. As laptop drive with bigger capacity comes out, you'll be able to use those as well.
-
Glad I could be of help. Not a marketer, just a fan of ThinkPads.
The one area of concern I would have with the 500GB drives is height. Some of the high capacity 2.5" drives are 3 platter designs (as opposed to the single or double platter designs in most hard drives) and may be thicker than normal. This could cause problems in a laptop as slim as a ThinkPad x200. -
Your sig line is an endorsement for the X200 Tablet all on its own...
I think 320GB will be plenty for me till the next generation of thin higher-density HDDs comes out... -
That's not entirely true. Here's the 500GB, 5400rpm that are out now and are standard-height:

If you ever want to upgrade, the Western Digital is the best one, followed by Seagate, and Samsung in term of performance.
The Seagate is the lowest in power consumption.

Thanks, zephir -- nice to know all the options...

That drive must use thin platters or something. Because it definitely is a three platter drive "World's First Three-platter Half-terabyte for Note PC
Half-terabyte Mobile Drive: Three-disk Solution in Standard 9.5mm Z-height". Good to know it's an option though. -
Well, after a long ordeal, including having the tablet mis-routed to the wrong UPS hub and having it go through import scans twice, I finally have the X200T in hand.
I set up the tablet and ultrabase maybe a half hour ago. So far, I'm very happy with the responsiveness of the Trackpoint (and that is using the default sensitivity and cap). I'm not even sure I'll have to change anything, though I'll prolly monkey with it later...
One problem I'm encountering...I can't seem to get the stylus to lock into its slot in the right side of the tablet. I bought an extra stylus and it's the same for both, so it's not the stylus...
I don't want to send the tablet back for such a little issue. Can anyone possibly advise me as to how I might tweak this on my own to get the stylus to lock?

Congrats on your new tablet, PortaJunkie.
I can't help you about your issue with the stylus, I guess if you can't solve the issue, you'll need to send it back to further revision, that'd be a shame.
I hope the problem can be solver easily, and congrats again on your new machine. -
Thanks, Needmore4less!
In my brief time with it, the X200T does seem like a fine machine -- a perfect fusion of form, size, and function...
I just hope I can get that stylus situation cleared up easily, or just learn to live with it... -
*** Calling off the stylus alert ***
Uh -- there is no problem with the stylus slot. I just wasn't pushing it in quite far enough. My wife was more fearless than me in handling the stylus, and got it to click shut...
I hate it when she shows me up like that!!!
Anyway -- now on to installing all the necessary software and getting the tablet up and running... -
Haha...good job porta. Anyways, enjoy.
-
Glad you got it working. You do have to push it in pretty far (you must click in the eraser) to get it to lock into place.
If you have any more questions about the tablet, and/or software packages or usage methods that may prove useful, just post them here. -
Thanks -- will do!
-
Ha...Thanks for not rubbing it in too much -- and thanks for the well-wish!
