On another (non-computer related) message board, I was told that Lenovo has historically given some amazing notebook deals around July 4th (in the U.S.). Is there any truth to that?
I ask because I'm fairly certain I'll be purchasing an X60 and I could wait until July 4th for financial reasons. However, if there are no financial reasons to wait, I'd just go ahead and buy it now (I'm in a position where I don't need my notebook now, but I wouldn't mind having it now either).

Only deal I see on that day is the release of Transformers the movie! It better be good!
you could search the deals section for last year's deals and see for yourself it is true and worth the wait -

Seems like a more general sale. Without details, its hard to judge what the discounts were on specific models.

Good deals will be available now and then. But better technology will only be available later on.

IF you can wait, it might be worth it to wait for Santa Rosa.

Santa Rosa is just around the corner. Might as well wait for the new models to come out.

This is kind of unusual timing....Lenovo does the back to school sale the month of July. With santa rosa coming out, and remaining stock of old tech, it will be interesting to see which one gets put on sale and how much.
