This is totally bizarre. I've always had 100% complete success with restoration from standby on my T61 (latest version of Access Connections, audio/wireless drivers, etc.). When I upgraded from XP SP2 to XP SP3, now whenever I standby then restore, I notice one of my svchost.exe instances has crashed. When I bring up the Services MMC, I notice these services have been shut down:

    - Cryptographic Services
    - HID Input Service
    - Network Connections
    - Remote Access Connection Manager
    - Shell Hardware Detection
    - System Restore Service
    - Telephony
    - Windows Audio
    - Wireless Zero Configuration
    - Workstation

I have to restart my computer to use it again. Has anyone heard of a particular main service crashing during standby and shutting down the services above?

I really don't want to have to reformat this machine!

i don't have this problem since my sp3 installation. i noticed that startup time has been slightly slower and that's pretty much of it.

you don't have to re-format it. you can always uninstall sp3.
