(Student Discount, plus additional coupon code discount USXLABORDAY, free shipping) I also paid $25 for 2 day shipping and $80 taxes.

The last 3 items (AC plug, Mouse, ON-site) were about 100. SO the computer itself... $1063... of course, I will probably spend another hunddy getting a sweet HDD

Seriously? It would not let me use a coupon in conjunction with my educational discount.

I think I might have to make a phone call tomorrow.

Looks like a nice notebook and a decent price you got there. Enjoy it when it comes. I know I'am.

Yep... I went to the students site lenovo.com/students where you choose specially priced product. On the right side is an eCoupon symbol and save up to additional 10%. It was W, X and X Tablets that got 10%; T series got 8%, R got 6% and SL got 5%. There were other codes for desktops and for if you purchased a specific monitor (with a desk top I believe). But it was in addition to my student discount.

Course, I added a couple of extras. Had I stuck with my original P8400 with no mouse, etc. I would have probably stayed under 1000. BUT...I cannot wait! :D

AN interesting thing happened while I was ordering. When I first logged on last night, the configure screens had MANY more options..

P9500, a couple of more RAM options like 2.5 GB. But, when I picked Vista Business, I didn't get the RDVD of XP option. AND.. I could choose any on-site warranty for no extra charge.. up to 4-years on-site, no extra charge.

So, I specced one like that... but was nervous. This had happened before, and then all those options disappeared.

So, I opened another tab, looked in the regular (not student) side of lenovo and all those extra options were gone. SO... I opened another tab for the student side again and all the extra options were GONE as well. So, I am thinking.. it was a site glitch... maybe I could order with the extras and then argue if they say it wasn't available... instead, I went with what I went with. I like it; I think I will be happy.

OH... now, when you choose the 6-cell battery, a little blurb pops up and says 'this choice will add some weight and the battery extends beyond the back of the laptop' or something like that. Hadn't seen that before either

Thanks Snake. I actually had a Sony CS for a couple of days...seduced by the 'instant availability' of retail purchase at MicroCenter. Had Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Well, I thought I had done my research, but I have a MISSION CRITICAL piece of software SAS Statitistical Analysis. I found out that SAS...
    1. Does not and, in the foreseeable future, WILL NOT support any Home Vista version. (from SAS Tech staff)

    2. For 64 Bit Vista, I need SAS 9.2 (My Uni (The University of Ohio)) has license for 9.1.3 (Maybe in Winter quarter 9.2 if...)

So.. I could not do what I had to do... thought about a clean install of a retail Business 32... but a couple of things made me really not want to do that.

GOOD NEWS OF STORY: Microcenter refunded without hitting me for the restock fee... AND I did not have to wait for a check from home office... (paid by check cuz stupid daily limit on Visa/Debit card) It was weird to walk out with like 65 20 dollar bills though...

SO... put my money in the bank and bought the machine above... better proc, better memory, more extras, on site warranty, for LESS THAN the Sony.
