Just ordered it (Model: 8744C9U) today from Euclid Computers, for $1999. That's almost $300 off from the current lenovo web price... They said they had four in stock, and that it would ship today (I hope so, based on others' reviews of the integrity of the place...)
My real only concern is whether I still qualify for the Express Vista Upgrade that Lenovo is offering... There wasn't anything listed on Lenovo's website regarding a purchase origin requirement, plus Euclid said since they are an authorized Lenovo distributor, I'm really dealing with Lenovo rather than Euclid. Fingers crossed!

Sounds like a lot of machine for the buck!
I think you'll be fine regarding the Vista upgrade. The process is a little cumbersome, but my guess is you'll have no problem. -
sounds like mine... except my HD was 60GB (7200RPM), it was a 4:3 SXGA+, and I had 1GB RAM instead (1 DIMM), oh and I got the 6 cell batt, BUT I have a three depot warranty + 3 year ThinkPad protection!!! $1600

depot means that you have to take it to the center, versus on-site means they'll come fix it at ur house
-
Congratulations on ur new baby ....
-
That sounds like a great deal for what you're getting.

Yeah, it really was a lot more than I was initially going to spend (~$1600), but I thought that since I'm doing CAD work (MS Robot Studio, Altium Designer, etc) that the better graphics was worth the upgrade over the X1400... We'll see how that pans out!
BTW, does anybody have recommendations for a carrying case? I was looking at Lenovo's website, and their "Expander" case (Model: 73P3597) seems to be pretty good -- seems to be on sale, too (was it initially $79?)... I don't need leather, and I would like some extra storage so that when I travel I can place things in the case and use it as a carry-on, but I don't want it to be HUGE! -
I received it finally this last Tuesday, and I've had a chance to play around with it. Mostly, I am very happy, except for one major issue.
Since this is my first laptop, I'm not sure how others really perform in the screen department, but I'm fairly disappointed with the screen. The resolution is great, it is bright, but the viewing angle is horrid. I mean, if my eyes are normal to the screen at the center, I can tell that the screen is noticably darker on the edges because of the difference in angle between the edge of the screen and the center of the screen between my eyes. If if move my eyes, parallel to the screen, to the edge it is just as bright as the center. So I know that the screen is uniformly lit, it just doesn't look that way because of the viewing angle issues... I don't recall seeing a similar issue with laptops on display at CompUSA, though I have to admit that those laptops didn't have the same resolution nor the physical screen real-estate. Plus I suppose I really shouldn't compare a laptop screen to a nice desktop monitor.
Another issue I'm having, a minor issue, is the Wirless Networking seems to be kind of borked. Sometimes (I think -- this may not be entirely accurate), when I turn on my computer in a new area (with different access points), the wireless just doesn't work; it can't find ANY access points/routers in the area. I have to re-boot the machine in order to get the system to correctly initialize the wireless 802.11. I originally thought it was a conflict between the windows and the ThinkVantage wireless programs, but it seems the windows one turns off if anything else is trying to control the wireless settings. At this point, I know how to fix it, so it isn't a big deal.
Oh, well. That's it so far; otherwise I'm extrememly satisfied with the purchase, and I've caught the ThinkPad fever! -
Glad that you're satisfied with your purchase.

I have faced same problem of wireless of T43 when I use the default wireless management of pre-install of Lenovo.
I have to come to website of Intel to download the software to manage the Wireless card then it seems OK now.
