I am going to order either the T61 or the R61 series, can't seen to make up my mind.... Is the only difference the weight? I want the 15 inch screen! Also , I was wondering if I went ahead and ordered either one and there was an upgrade available later on (like the Intel Montevina) , could I send mine back for the upgrade or how does that work? Is it even possible?

I want a laptop but I am like everyone else, I want the latest stuff out there lol...

I will quit asking y'all silly questions one day I promise! This will be my first laptop so I am kinda nervous...

Also, does anyone know where to find coupons for Lenovo's?

    Thanks

The difference between the 15.4" T and R61s is a bit bigger than the difference between the 14.1" models. The R61 here lacks an LCD roll cage, is quite a bit heavier (nearly a pound), and is covered with a less durable material (ABS plastic) than the T61. Other than that, you are not losing much else. It's still a very sturdy notebook.

IBM/Lenovo will not upgrade your notebook for you, they will simply expect you to buy a new one, lol.

Since you are only using your notebook for normal stuff like you said here, you don't need Montevina.

I think most people would agree a glossy screen is best for multimedia uses like movies. All ThinkPad screens, with the exception of the optional glossy screens on the R61i, are matte. Matte screen are not near as vivid as a glossy screen.

If you are willing to consider other options something like the Fujitsu A6120 might be worth a look. It has an optional 450 nit glossy screen which is gorgeous. I've seen it though not on that model. It is quite nice. Fujitsus like ThinkPads are considered business class notebooks and are well built with US based tech support.

Fujitsu won't upgrade your notebook either, but as I said I don't think you need it.

XPBargains is a good site for notebook deals because you can look them up by manufacturer. Not much for Fujitsu there yet. Good Luck.

    Hi OutdorsyGal.

I have a t61p with a nine cell battery and 15 inch screen. I love it but I think it's heavy as a brick. It get's to be a real weighty thing carrying it around. If I had any complaints about it, that would be it.
