So I ordered my T500 on Thursday 3/5, it was shipped on the 9th and I received it this morning...that is quite impressive. However so far I only have one issue. 1 bright and shining dead pixel about 2mm from the bottom of the screen in the toolbar area. Any thoughts as to what I can do about this?

Thanks for the suggestions..unfortunately no help I ran the program and tried massaging/tapping but nothing. I can get used to it but just hate to have such a glaring defect on a brand new computer.

From what I've read Lenovo will only replace the screen if it has 3 bad pixels...I may give them a call and see if they will anyway. Its worth a shot.

Dead pixels bother me. I'd try to get it replaced.

Dead pixels have been greatly decreased in the past few years, but they are a fact of manufacturing and are a risk whenever ordering an LCD. I think lenovo's 3pixel policy (if that is the number, I don't know personally) seems pretty fair. But I guess you can try and give them a call anyways.

I would try calling them as you don't have much to lose. Lenovo is pretty good on their quality but as stated there is always a small probability some will get a defect.

I don't think Lenovo's policy is unfair as there are always chances of defects...I'm just disappointed it happened

You also have the option of returning it, with the fee, and try again. Not sure what the fee is though.

You can try calling them; however, I don't think you'll have much luck.

Lenovo's pixel policy is very liberal (to their benefit). For a WSXGA+ display you need either 5 hot pixels (Red, Blue, or Green), 8 cold pixels (Black), or a combination of the two >= 10 ( T500 Maintenance Manual pg. 45).

Your 1 dead pixel isn't even close to the threshold.

You can try to shake it loose with software, or press firmly on the offending pixel with your thumb. One of these might work, but it's unlikely.

jonlumpkin: Lenovo's pixel policy for replacement of LCD panels, which you are referring to, has been superseded by an updated version as of 1st January 2008. Lenovo has substantially relaxed the criteria and allows for a replacement of panels with 3 or more defective pixels under warranty. See here: Display (LCD) replacement for defective pixels
