    Hello everyone,

On Friday my 300gb Intel 320 series SSD DIED. No, I don't even mean the now-infamous 8mb bug, I'm saying that the drive died, and would no longer be detected by the bios.

I'm now currently in the process of rebuilding my windows install. I'm going the clean install route this time, instead of the standard lenovo recovery image.

Intel has a good return policy. I put a deposit on my credit card, and paid $25 for overnight, shipping, with included return shipping paid.

Word to the wise, if you're rocking an Intel 320, please do have regular backups.

You should have a good back up or two regardless of the drive.

haha, I knew it would be only moment before the backup people would come in.

I keep most of my personal data in the cloud, so I didn't loose anything but application installs. It was a good time for a OS rebuild, anyway.

I like to do a clean install when I receive a machine. At can put it back at any time, then just make any needed updates.

quickest path to becoming one of the "backup people" = having been burned by depending on one drive

If you were able to see the error code, was it 0x13x or something else?

Oh the pain! I remember the drive failure like it was yesterday... :(

The day I learned all of the ins and outs of clean installing, backing up and restoring, however, I felt really empowered.

I have 2 Intel 320 SSDs, the 160 GB when it first came out before 8 MB bug, and 2nd 120 GB after. Still going strong.

None. I came back home (my laptop was on), and I was staring at a "hard drive detection error" in the bios. That's it.

I assume it blue screened and restarted. After that, the BIOS wouldn't even show it.

I pay for the pro version, for deployment at work... ;)
