Ouch.
Just ordered a 15.4" R61 (T7300, 1GB ram, 100GB 7200, etc etc plus 3 year depot, came out to 1260)online but i forgot there was a 10% off coupon and i didn't check off the webcam. I e-mailed Lenovo about a half hour after the fact to see if i could get the webcam and the coupon discount or cancel it before i'm charged so i could reconfigure. Anyone know if i'll have any luck with this or is it too late?

Thanks for the response. I thought calling would be the best course of action but i'm in a bind, my cell phone is awol and on campus we can only make local calls. Technically my parents picked up the tab but thinkpads cost enough as is, i'd like them to save some $$$.
I've been doing some searching and I've noticed its unusually hard to find information/impressions about the 15.4 inch R61 (which i ordered). From what I gather this is because it doesn't have the exact same casing as the 14" R61 & T61, but is it really that large of an issue? If you could point me somewhere that has discussion of the 15 inch model (in general) that would be great. -
You can use the coupon to get a quote now, once your laptop shipped, call to do a price match.

I was in same boat as u r. I wanted webcam and S-video but was not sure if the R61 continued the same build quality as T61. At first I placed a R61 order and later changed my mind and canceled it and went with T61.
My reasons were, I thought I can get a cheap webcam for my online chat use(which is not that much anyways). Plan to buy a new TV this year which will have VGA so S-video is not a big issue. T61 is made of much better material and hence a better quality laptop.....if I am not getting the good build quality then why go with thinkpads anyways ? Also found out that the T61 has copper heat sinks while R61 has Alluminium ones.....to cut costs lenovo took this step. So I was wondering what else has lenovo skimped on in the R61 model that is not apparent to the eye ?
Hence my reason to go with T61. Regarding your order changing issue....I would say simply call them and cancel the order. And then go online and reorder it. That will be way more easier than reconfiguring your system. Trust me...this comes from a guy who has already canceled 4 lenovo orders.
Good Luck ! -
I hear you, but you didn't actually use a 15.4" R61, its speculation. From reviews, the build, despite being more plastic and aluminum vs copper, is still quite solid. This review is quite similar to the model I ordered, and the review says that the build is still quite solid. In fact they rated it the same as the T61
Taking into account the two cost cutting moves you mentioned, where does that really place the R61? Is that really any worse than my alternatives (Vostro 1500, Dv6500t, maybe a more expensive HP-Compaq)?
All things considered I would go with the T61. In fact, I configured a T61 to the same specs as the R61 I ordered and it came out to only $50 more after the coupon. But Lenovo is listing a 3-4 week delay just on including a DVD burner. I needed to pick up this laptop in the next 4 weeks during my winter break, so that delay is a major deal breaker. It seems like a no brainer but I don't want that 3-4 week delay...
Thanks for the responses, I'd have a hard time calling Lenovo and cancelling though since i have no cell phone and don't know of any pay phones around here. The U overcharges for their calling cards so i'm really going to try my luck with the e-mail.
gaura, you said you cancelled multiple times, correct? So if Lenovo receives my e-mail tomorrow, the credit card shouldnt be charged yet, right? Last thing I want is 2500 on the credit card while waiting for the credit to be refunded.
Another change of heart... i'm just going to stick with what ive got and price match with the quote, thanks leshan -
How do I use the coupon to get the quote, i'm at the cart and i've applied the coupon, should i just save the cart or what?
-
Apply the coupon, check as you (or your parents) would if you were buying the laptop. Then, instead of filling out cc info and clicking on "make purchase" or whatever it says, you click on "get quote" (after agreeing to terms of sale). They'll email the quote and quote number (should start with a "y" or other letter) to the address you provide. Once the laptop is built and has an invoice associated with it, you can call and have the credit applied.
-
Given your restrictions I think you made the right call in going with R61. Regarding the return if limit on credit card is an issue and you cannot call to cancel I would rather do what leshan has suggested. When I canceled the order, I followed from other users experiences. I called them again next day after canceling and found out that they hadn't canceled the order. So I kept calling and the third day only I was able to get the order of their records. So canceling via email has 100% chance of not going through. Regarding the delay due to dvd burners......I am not sure if this delay is only on T61 and not the R series. Some people who ordered T series with burner still got their laptop shipped in 5 days and some are still waiting.
Damn lenovo.....they are just so unpredictable. God knows whats going on in their factory. -

You should give them a call but it might be to late -
I wish someone had the 15" R61 so i could ask them about it, seems everyone goes with the 14". I've used 14" laptops at my lab and my current laptop is a 4:3 14" so I know thats not for me. I'm thinking that even though the T61 is the better buy I'll just pricematch and save my mom a 150. Might have to do a review of the 15.4" R61 myself...

If this helps.....I just called Lenovo for my order status. The CSR told me first that its gonna ship out around 26th and then put me on hold and comes back and says its gonna be shipped on 4th Jan !@#$!@
So if you want it quick maybe T61 is not the way to go. -
i've sent Lenovo probably around 20 e-mails stating everything from "cancel the first order, and order this quote" to "don't cancel the order but configure with webcam" and from the looks of things they haven't gotten around to any of them. I'm really trying to get a T61p configured the same as my R61 but without bluetooth and with a 120GB 5400RPM + 1GB Turbo memory instead of 100GB 7200RPM and after the coupon it comes out cheaper than the R61 before the coupon. That said, the sale ends today so i'm slowly resigning myself to the thought that best case scenario is the original order goes through because otherwise i'm not receiving that notebook anytime soon. That notebook check review does make me feel pretty good about the 15" R61 though. I finally decide to just call Lenovo but all the phonecard machines are out. I'm resigned to my fate.
Just bought R61, forgot to use coupon
