I've been lurking in the shadows, reading posts, and checking reviews about the X200. Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge.

Tonight as I was configuring my X200, the option appeared to have DOS preinstalled. Sweet. . .I have copies of XP and Vista already so I was downgrading this item anyway to save money. Low and behold the price was $72 less than Vista Basic. Super Sweet!

I'd certainly rather have a free SSD but that ship has sailed. Its doubtful Lenovo can fill this order, I wonder what they'll do. See thumbnail for order details.

As of right now, just DOS, no XP or Vista.

I bought from the student alumni website.

After just speaking with Lenovo's CS they said DOS is a valid OS option on laptops. Strange its not offered on the website anymore. Having an assortment of OS's on hand already, its nice not to pay for another license.

I wonder if one can make a custom order online and then phone in afterwards and have the OS removed and switched to DOS?

I have two retail copies of Vista Home Premium that I can use.

    I'm guessing they're using FreeDOS.

Well, the thumbnail says it is PC-DOS. I think Lenovo (IBM) is using this also for some of the Thinkpad software tools.

I wanna know how to do this as well. So then I can either install XP or ubuntu without having to pay for another copy of XP or vista.

As I figured, DOS is NOT an option. I received a call saying the system needed to be reconfigured, with Vista. Oh well. Price ended up being the same as the new special + $222 for the 3yr protection plan. The new special is a better deal than the Student pricing. Now I have the pain of waiting two weeks before playing with my new computer.

Sorry to get your hopes up if you hate paying for OS's you're not using.
