I am planning to take out my T61's 200G/7200rmp hard disk and 9-cell battery and put them on this T500.
Any problem doing so? Does this sound a good system?![]()
Thanks.

The 9 cell battery will not work apparently. Lenovo changed *something* in the electrical department. The hard drive should work. You apparently can use the same power adapter too.

Can someone with the knowledge provide input on this?
I need to cancel this order immediately if the T61's 9-cell is not working on T500.
Thanks!!! -
What, why wouldn't it work...
Tim_Lenovo says they are the same exact batteries -
The tabook lists the same part number for 9cell batteries for 15" T61's as for T500's: 40Y6797 -
LaptopGun, where did you get that information? Anybody reported this problem? Did you test it yourself?
I am concerned about this. -
if you read correctly....it implies the t400 are NOT backwards compatible but the t500 are

Okay folks, let's take a look at some pictures of batteries.
Below is a T400 battery taken from Kevin's T400 review.
And below that is a picture of a T60 battery courtesy of flickr user infil which is identical to the T61's line of batteries.
Looking at these two batteries shows that the way in which they would fit into their respective notebooks means they will not fit into another series of T notebooks. -
dohuy,
I bought a T500.
Do you mean T61's 9-cell battery will not work on T500?
Did you notice Lew's post?

Do you have a picture of T500's 9-cell battery?
Thanks! -
Ah, well, if Lenovo really is using two different sets of batteries for their T400/T500 notebooks, then I'm not sure about backwards compatbility w/ T6xs. T400 compatibility w/ the 61 series won't be possible though. It's just that Lenovo used the same batteries for 14.1" and 15" models in the 60/61 series. It's possible they may have changed policy and designed two different sets of batteries. Anyone have a camera and a T500?

As long as the new models are rated for 10.8 volts and the old battery fits , they SHOULD work. I'm getting conflicting information that the amp hours are the same, but I'm getting the sense they are the same because even Lenovo's page points to the same battery. I though they were going with a different voltage. I was wrong apparently. Sorry for the confusion and just relying on information I heard months ago.
Just bought a T500.
