Yup, just bought it online a few minutes ago. Im sure Im going to enjoy it as much as my Macbook Pro which I bought like a month ago. I only bought the T61 because I like the looks of it too, what a way to spend almost 2k.

LOL, just kidding, I didnt buy it for myself, I bought it as a birthday gift for my best friend. I got him a T61 because he has already gone through 2 laptops in 2 years (he's really clumsy and tends to be very rough with his laptops).

First he had a Dell 640m, that one lasted 8 months until the motherboard gave out, warantee did not cover it because it was deemed "Accidental Damage"

His next one was a Sony Vaio FE790. That one lasted a little over a year and the motherboard gave out on that one too. Future Shop estimated $700 to fix, he didnt bother.

He claims he is done with laptops and that there isnt a laptop out there that can take his abuse. Well, Im going to prove him wrong. Hopefully the T61 will be able to last longer than 1 year.

With an IBM, you never need to worry about anything. How do they call that... Business on demand ;)

I bet the IBM will last longer then 1 year, especially with the new magnesium design and all. And warranty of IBM is top class, so no problems there.

Congratulations on your purchase, ToshibaDude! It's amazingly nice of you to give an extremely nice gift after all that confusion with your job. Hopefully things will work out for you.

    He'll enjoy it, I'm sure.

What did your friend do with those two laptops? Dropped them?

Yeah, but this friend has saved me more than $4000 on my car purchase so it more than paid for itself.

Pretty much, yes, he drops them. He treats it like a textbook, throws it around in his bag, drops it on the table, and he does not wash his hands after eating something ie chips, chicken wings, etc, before using the keyboard. He wipes them off but does not bother to wash with soap. He also carries it around like atextbook whiles its on alot of the times. Im surprised that the motherboards gave out before the hard drives did.

Hes just naturally clumsy, not mentally, but physically. Its just his nature lol.

heh sounds like some of the abuse my ibook went through. I would have friends literally full force kick the thing pretty much. I am kinda surprised it is still holding up as well as it is.

From the sound of it, I'd say it's a good thing you bought him a notebook that can handle that type of beating. However, I'd suggest he cleans out underneath his keyboard periodically... chips + keyboard = big mess. ;)

Maybe your friend should consider having a layer of reinforced steel soldered to his laptop... :)

Seriously. A T61 is a good book for travel but your friend might seriously break that, too. A Tough Book costs around $2,000 or so for a fully rugged model, but it's really good stuff. Not the latest stuff, but he'll be able to take it anywhere and treat it how he treats it now without it breaking.

He doesnt know I got the T61 for him yet. His actual birthday is in about 1 and a half months away, but I ordered it today because it may take a while to get here, and I just got my new shiny credit card and my first purchase is interest free.

ALso, when I give it to him Im going to give him a big lecture on what he needs to improve to prolong the life of the laptop, talk some sense into the kid.

On the bright side, it gives me a chance to see how well it will hold up over time, put its name to the test, see if those videos on lenovo's website are true or not. Ill tell you, if this T61 survives for the next 2 or 3 years, it will definitely be on the top of my list for my next notebook purchase.

ToshibaDude, if you need another best friend you let me know! :)

Congrats, please let us know how the "off-center" screen feels. That might be the only thing holding me back from it.

Personally, I cant stand the off center screen. Ive only looked at it in pictures and everytime I look it really bugs me. I know I will grow to get used to it but the first few months will be horrible for me. Otherwise its a great computer.
