    Reasons for canceling:
    1) going off to college next year and wanted a tried and true design unlike the BSODing T61s w/ advanced mini dock which I already have.

2)Better overall build quality and higher quality materials

    3)Battery Life

4)Minimal performance increase from Santa Rosa

5)As PC Mag said in their review, its the meanest business laptop you can buy

6)GPU is far more powerful than my needs but will allow for gaming if necessary (no sense for me to wait for T61p)

7)As of now, Turbo Memory does didly squat and if I want something similar, I could get the external ReadDrive that does work.

Hopefully that shipping date is false but we will see cause I NEED it by the 23rd.(when college starts)

LMK what you guys think, the T61 I had on order was in my sig.

Oh yea, centered screen, even though when typing on it I wouldn't notice it at all, I'm OC about stuff like that and having an off center screen would look retarted and would always bother me.

Additionally, the T60 series was designed by IBM not lenovo like the T61 series.

I'm curious what your ship date is? I ordered a T60p on 5/22, original est chip date was 6/15, changed to 8/22. Sent a cancellation email a week and a half ago, but the order status page still says "In Process".

I figure if it get here, cool. If not, I'll bug them to really cancel it and order a T61p.

School starts for me in the middle of august, hopefully I have a laptop by then :)

    Yep, 2007 :(

Wish there was a place to buy locally .... all I have ever found in OfficeMax & Staples were either the 3000 series or one T60 tablet and they were considerably more expensive than buying online.

Some people seem to have gotten T61's from PCConnection for close to the same price, but their T60p's are all around $2k, $400 more than my build costs on lenovo.com

Dells are starting to look more and more appealing :(

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Dells suck, build quality is as good as **** and I just dont like the design of them.

Thinkpads are engineered to perform in the business world and are built to last.

I didn't realize that. If the T60 series is indeed the final ThinkPad designed by IBM then that's a huge incentive to go with it over a T61 series.

eskimochaos: you need to update your sig.

A friend of mine just got a D830, and the quality is pretty good. I'd prefer the sturdiness and build quality of the thinkpad, but I'd also prefer to get my laptop sooner than 3 months from when I order it.

Seriously considering a Dell Precision M65 at this point.

Off the top of my head, my friend's T42 has a slightly off center screen. Not nearly as obvious at the T61 though.

You guys are gonna find this funny but I changed my mind and I am sticking with my T61. The best part about it is that I called to cancel the T61 originally but apparently when I called back to re-order it, the CS rep never actually sent in the cancellation request form. So, I was able to cancel the order of the T60p (still not reflected in status page) and essentially resume my T61 order because the rep never had sent in the request. Additionally, I made the CS rep send the warehouse in China a notice saying that if they do receive a cancellation request for the T61 to disregard it.

To ensure that my plans have worked, I have since called Lenovo twice confirming that the cancellation request was sent in for the T60p and that I can expect my T61 in sig to ship next week.

I happy that Lenovo's mistake worked in my favor today!

Can't wait to get my hands on my T61 after a VERY tough decision, I'm not the best at making decisions lol.

    1) AFAIK, most of the T61 BSODs are being caused by unstable drivers in Vista. You can always expect problems with new software.

    2) I haven't heard anything conclusive, just lots of conflicting opinions. ie, screen material (which they purposesly changed for better wireless reception than the T60), more flex in the plastic (flex is not always a bad thing, especially for absorbing impact), Lenovo changing manufacturing plants (which I've seen denied on the Lenovo blogs...). I see nothing solid to go by, really.

    3) For the 15.4" models, is the battery life really worse? AFAIK there's nothing about the T61 that draws more power than the T60, it all depends on what components you get (ie hard drive, graphics card, CPU, wireless card, bluetooth, WWAN) and the size of the battery (the T61 14" doesn't have as much space for the battery, though).

    4) Actually the reason I went for Santa Rosa is that the newer generation of integrated graphics is a lot faster (disclaimer: still not great for games, but it helps for 3d desktop effects at least). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA for more info.

    6) Don't use dedicated graphics if you don't need it, and you care about battery life. It will also make your laptop run hotter, leaving more room for failure (ie, google 'BGA reflow' to see all the problems Thinkpads, MBPs, consoles, etc have with FBGA ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BGA) graphics chipsets) It's !@$#'ing ridiculous.

    7) Yeah, Turbo Memory probably won't catch on. Hard drives with embedded flash-based memory will instead. However at least it's easy to opt-out of.

The T61 runs much cooler than the T60.

I don't really listen to comments re. Lenovo vs. IBM. Of course the T60 isn't the 'last laptop designed by IBM'. What's nice about the Thinkpad is they haven't changed the design drastically for 15 years - they've had that much time to tweak how the Thinkpad is produced. They didn't just sell the brand to Lenovo, they sold 15 years of IP, some human resources, etc. I guess what I'm saying is there's a lot of IBM left in the T61, and Lenovo is continuing to innovate.

Who knows, perhaps they've $!@#'ed up the T61, but I think it's too early to tell. If you don't want to take a risk, definitely get the T60. But so far I'd say the coast is clear. I generally like the bleeding edge, as there are always problems with complicated systems (hardware and software) which can only be fixed in a new generation. Judging by some of the innovation Lenovo has done in the T61 (ie wireless reception, cooling, liquid drainage) I'd say they are paying attention to the Thinkpad's flaws while also trying to add new features.

Tdpop11, as stated before, I decided to change my mind again and stay with my T61 order in sig.

I'm excited, I was scared with all the heat that the T60p produces and just disappointed if I didn't have the latest and greatest components.
