I just bought a X60 a couple of months ago. I choose the non s over the s because I need a Core 2 Duo. But now the X61s has a Core 2 Duo. Is the X61 so much better than the X60 that I should think about replacing it?

The X60s has the option of the ultralight screen which is 20% brighter and 0.20 lbs lighter than the regular screen.

The processors in the X60s models may be C2D now, but they are still low-voltage. So if you really do need lots of power, you should stay with the non-LV processors in the regular X60. The X60s LV processors run cooler and use less power than the X60 processors.

The X60s is also slightly smaller and lighter than the regular X60.

I don't think the x60(1)s is smaller than the x60(1) if you are using the standard 4 or 8-cell battery. Its smaller only if you are using the slim 4-cell (which costs almost as much as the 8-cell). It is a bit lighter.

The X60(1)s is slimmer than the X60(1) regardless of which battery is being used. Like you said, the X60(1)s is also lighter.

    Jackboot please see this post:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=126927

The S series does not appear to be slimmer at ALL! The thickest point is supposed to be 1.1 on the S series, and 1.39 on the non-s. Thats enough to be noticeable in the pics that andrew posted. I also found some specifications that suggest it is ONLY slimmer with the special slim battery.

    Hrm rather confusing...

I'm not trying to argue, but it does appear in the pictures posted that the X60 sits higher than the X60s. They use the same battery in the pictures but in my eye the X60 *definitely* sits higher. I wonder why this is since the notebook (on the X60s at least, since I can look at the bottom of mine) sits on the 8-cell battery itself.

Do you also see the X60 sitting higher than the X60s in the linked pictures?

I've used them side-by-side at IBM and I could not tell the differnce, I'd swear it's the same case. It would be uneconomical otherwise.

The main difference is, as you said, the LV processor. And only the S allows the slim battery, which accounts for the fractional weight difference.

As for the UL screen, it sounds great but I've not seen it. Users have complained about its quality so personally I wouldn't get it site unseen, unless you can return it.

The answer to your question is.... NO.

There is virtually no difference, so there's better things to do with your money than swap thinkpads. Wait a couple of years until it's worthwhile to swap.

At first i thought the x61 sat higher, but its the same 8-cell. The batteries are interchangeable. I think its just the angle of the picture that makes the x61 look like it sits higher.

the slimline battery is not interchangeable. It can only be used on the x60s.

I know that. I was talking about the 8-cell that is pictured in the post that I linked above.

If you could exchange it for free then yes, but otherwise listen to Skibunny. NO. Unless, you want to sell me your X60 for a low low one-time-only price of free.99 . Because then I'd also say yes.
