I just bought a lenovo t43 with intel graphics. I got it for about $700 and thought it was a decent deal

    #1 the screen is horrible

#2 the cd drive is makes these weird noises

but the keyboard has to be one of the best I have ever seen on a thinkpad ever. it's probably a chicony but am not sure

my question is about the screen quality

the viewing angle on this screen is horrible, that is understandable but the what is not acceptable it the "blacks". When watching a movie any scene where the there it is darker and there are shadows, I can't see anything but outlines

also the screen experiences some heavy bleeding, everything looks washed out and white.

Are these a common thing on the t43's what about the svga versions?

$700 is pretty expensive for a used T43. I probably wouldn't have paid more than $500 for it. I would try to return it as others have suggested.

For $888 plus shipping, you can get a brand new Thinkpad R61. Just go here:

Don't worry about not being a real IBM Shareholder; many people have been abusing this code to death on Fatwallet and Slickdeals.

The SPP prices are just the same as with the 5% Visa cardholder discount, or the "student & alumni" discount, at least for the T61 14.1W that I checked.

I would suggest you buy a new Thinkpad with the Shareholder's discount. If that's too expensive, then look for a used T42 on Craigslist or Ebay. You can usually find those for around $400-500. The T42 is basically the same as the T43 except it uses an older Centrino platform. The T42 will also get you better battery life as well.

Dude for 700? You have to be kidding me. My laptop is way better than a T43 and it'll probably go for 400.

    ASUS
    15.4" WSGA+ (1680 x 1050)
    Pentium-M 2.0Ghz
    1GB RAM
    80GB SATA 5400RPM
    CD-RW/DVD-ROM
    Nvidia Geforce GO 6600

If anyone wants to buy it, it's a good deal for the specs. It's amazing how cheap you can get Pentium-Ms now since everything is core 2. I mean my graphics card is about as powerful as an NVS140m, the processor is great for doing things that business people do like watch HD movies, browse the web, check email etc. They work well and they're at rock bottom prices. They're a steal. I mean if I had a young daughter or son and they needed a first computer I'd buy them a Pentium-M machine in a heartbeat. I mean why in the world would they need a core 2 with like 2gb of ram and an NVS140M that are in most new laptops?

We need to know what you are comparing the screen to. I've bought off the outlet site before and the screens are what I expected from 2-3 year old technology.

The T43 are great. The screen (i suppose depending on which one of the vendors they put in) is ok.

The big problem i think with the t43 is the fan running pretty much all the time at moderate to high speed.

I picked up a T60 last week, 14.1 1.83 dual core wsga+ with a ati 1400, bluetooth, fingerprint reader, 80 gig hardrive. All i had to do was put in the thinkpad wireless card. It was refurbished, but I got a great deal from ubid. I can't tell that it was refurbished, looks like brand new to me, not bad for 565.00

Geforce GO 6600 is that powerful? Are you sure? I thought NVS140M == 8400, which should do pretty well against a 6600.. no?
