I started it up and found a dead pixel on my screen. Also saw that for some reason, my Window's Vista product key license on the bottom of the laptop is totally not covered by any plastic. It is just the paper license sticker. Furthermore, the sticker has been rubbed completely off at some parts, mainly where the two ribbons? are. It looks like someone took a brillo pad to it (this cant be normal can it?). Keep in mind this is a BRAND NEW Thinkpad T61. I was so happy to have it today after waiting more than a month to get it....and now im so disappointed. Part of me just wants to get what i paid for, the other just wants to return it.

Hi,
My Thinkpad had the same thing on the license sticker. I thought it strange until I looked at the HP I bought for my wife and it had the same thing. Now I am thinking that this is done deliberately.
As long as you can read the product key I wouldn't worry about it.
Sorry to hear about the stuck pixel. My screen (1440x900) was perfect.

Hmm so this is suppose to be this way (the product key). I mean, I KNOW that within a week of use, the whole sticker will come off most likely. It is not protected by any plastic like all my past laptops have been.
The pixel is reaaaaaaaaaaally annoying me though. -

Oh i fully intend to. But they're only open from 9-7....ya know...when normal people work.

Can anyone else tell me if this worn product license code new from the box sounds screwy? I mean... i can understand if its worn after some use, but on a brand new laptop? Also, it says its a Singapore licensed version?
-
Eh? It's just the new type of Microsoft's licence stickers.
My two days old T61 has it, the D820 has it, nothing new in the last few months. -
I saw this. I recognize that it can wear....but i dont understand how it can be worn at the time of delivery.

That is how the new stickers are, makes it much harder to rip them off (the old ones were easily copied and reproduced illegally).
They actually wear quite well even without lamination, I have not had trouble with any of them to be honest. -
ok, it looks just like the one in thix pic from the notebook review.
But mine is new from the box. If this is normal, can someone tell me why/how it is normally worn this way? -
I got mine yesterday and the license sticker is also worn just like your picture. Mine also says Lenovo Singapore.
Regarding the dead pixel, I would definitely try to do something especially if it's towards the center of the screen. -

i'm interested in knowing what lenovos policy is on dead pixels. i would think they would replace it during the return period without much of a hassle.

i would try first the software stuff. it worked for me on a 24" lcd flat panel.
the other methods seem risky.. especially the damp cloth -

for the label thing... mine is that way too.. im betting that the lable is rubbed off by lenovo or by customs to make sure that it is legitimate. if it wasnt from microsoft then they wouldnt allow it to be imported and lenovo would get royally screwed by US customs.

Mine is rubbed off too -- I also worried that the thing was going to rub off, but seeing that it's so common is reassuring.
Just got my T61...problems from the get go.
