Alright I'm convinced that I am an idiot and am overlooking something. I just got my x61s (which i love) and picked up a 2gb stick of pc2 5400 ram to put in it. From the factory the thinkpad has a 1gb stick which would bring my total to 3 gbs.
I turned the notebook off, took battery out, took the plate off to install the ram and ran into a problem. The slots for the ram are not facing the same direction. I had to turn this stick over to try to put it in but i realized that you can't do that because the sides are different.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to buy a different kind of ram?

i am unable to comprehend this thread

put the 2gig unit in the face up slot and the other in the face down slot.

So you are saying take out the 1gb that it came with and put it in the other slot? This means I will have to turn it upside down because of the notch... it won't fit if it is upside down will it?

What does it mean?
Insert the sticks they way they fit.
What's up with this upside down dilemma? -
I was just trying to make it simple, you really don't have to switch slots. One unit goes in "upside down" there are not two types of ram for your machine. If Lenovo were to have installed 2 gig in your machine instead of one, you would see the exact same unit you have turned over and installed in the second slot. Just make sure the notch in the ram matches the tab in the slot and push it in. Have you looked at the installation video on lenovo's site?
Just got my X61s... problem!
