And all I can say is wow.
This machine is absolutely brilliant from top to bottom. Each key feels different, the trackpoint is so much better than a touchpad...
Every laptop should be built with this kind of quality, there is no flex in any part of the laptop...I mean I simply don't know what else to say.
The only gripe I can think of is the bloatware. Jesus lenovo, I thought this was a business laptop? How is anyone supposed to get work done with this much crap?
No worries though, in goes the windows 7 disk![]()
Edit: As requested here's a pic. Sorry my HTC Ozone doesn't take very good pictures.

Also, college dorms suck.

The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
I am jealous. The X200s is a very nice machine. I have the X200 now and really love it. I showed it to a friend this last weekend and he was very impressed. The first thing he said was "I want one of these". I might upgrade to a X200s later this year. Enjoy your machine!
-
I would wait for the x210, which may be released early next year. my guess is that it'll have the fast chip on the x200 (which you will miss if you switch to an x200s) but the same bright/lightweight LED screen of the x200s.
-
The x200s will not use the same CPUs as the x200. The whole point is to have a lower power chip. Now that doesn't mean you cant get great performance.
But they won't use the same CPUs. -
Sorry if this is a silly question but will there likely be a x210s released at the same time as the x210, or is the x200s too new? I have an x61s I would like to upgrade but wanted to wait for a refresh if possible.
Thanks in advance -
The whole x series is suppose to be refreshed. I don't think the refresh is necessarily worth waiting for. You can get some pretty good deals on the x200s already and there are some nice machines in the outlet for cheap.

we want some pictures, naughty ones

Congratulations!

I wish I could post em, but I didn't bring a camera to college.

Congrats! The X200s has been at the top of my "wish list" since it was introduced! The price (as it related to my budget) was the only reason I bought a Dell Latitude E6400 instead. But now the X200s prices have been reduced significantly, making an already good value an even better deal!
I have one question/concern about display- the Lenovo website shows that all three configurable models have a WXGA (1280x800) display??? Until recently, all X200s models had a WXGA+ (1440x900) LED which set it apart from the X200 and virtually every other 12.1" notebook on the market!
Anyone know what's happening with that? Is it no longer possible to order an X200s with the 1440x900 display?
Thanks! -
I believe they have a shortage of supply on the screens.

The display was one of the primary features that set the X200s apart from the X200. It appears that they're using the same CCFL-backlit display now on both models!?
There were three things that set the X200s display apart-
WXGA+ (1440x900) resolution vs. WXGA (1280x800)
250-nit brightness vs. 200-nit
LED-backlighting vs. CCFL-backlighting
The X200s is about 0.5lbs lighter than the X200 on the spec sheet, but the X200 is still only a 2.95lbs to start.
The X200s also had the benefit of longer battery life primarily because it used LV/ULV processors and because of the LED-backlit display...so that negates a substantial part of the longer battery life also.
From my perspective, the X200 is more appealing now than the X200s- you get significantly faster processor choices, it weighs just 0.5lbs more and battery life is only slightly less... -
The x200 also has a camera as a possibility too

Yeah if I wasn't able to get a 1440x900 screen I would certainly not have bothered with the premium for the x200s. It's a wonderful machine, I wanted super portability. If there was no option for the 1440x900 I would've just went with the x200. A webcam would've been nice as well as a faster processor. As it stands I would not have changed my order in any way.
-
it's a sweet machine. lovin' it everyday
-
Nice grats! I love the smaller thinkpads (although Id love to have a WUXGA screen again).

I have to say I'm jealous of your palmrest. Mind is polluted with a touchpad, which really bothers me.
All in all its a sweet looking rig you got there, now if only they had an x200 with LED wxga+ with a discrete GPU option it would be pretty appealing to me. -

From my understanding is that a discrete option would mean a dedicated card, which does not go well with the "ultraportable" idea.
In regards to the touchpad, I've been a user for a long while, I loved my touchpad, and was hesitant on getting rid of it. I spent this much on a laptop and told myself I'd deal with it.
I LOVE IT. From my POV there are two people in this world:
1) Those who love the trackpoint
2) Those who have not experienced the trackpoint. -
The only thing I want is for Lenovo to put in a good screen in its laptops. Would it kill them to do that?
-
It just cost them money...
Not enough demand unfortunately. -
One of the great joys of having a small notebook like this at University/College is seeing your classmates' envious stares as they lug around their 14" & 15" notebooks.
As for the guy who said you should of waited for the X210 model. Keep in mind that Lenovo's prices always drop a significant amount 6-12months after a new release. -

This isn't a multimedia machine, it's for work. So I can say that even though it's not great for looking at pictures, it gets the job well done in a nice small package and isn't a netbook.
While true I find more joy when I look at the tiny netbooks and when they struggle to take notes. I like my full sized keyboard.
-
Yeah, the netbooks are silly. Taking notes on a keyboard with keys smaller than fingers... haha.
What holds me back is that the vertical resolution is so low.
Either 900 with a TN or 800 with a TN or 800 with a self modded AFFS (much better). No more 1400x1050
-
Ya if you can afford it a real ultraportable notebook is worth it. I think netbooks really only serve a purpose on the couch to check email or on a trip.
-
Going to have to agree on this one. Although I do enjoy using my x200 Tablet on the couch as well (it's great for reading articles in slate mode)
-
Jon...I am on the couch with the x200 right now. hah
-
Agreed on the trackpoint comment. As far as the dedicated GPU, having a very low end GPU or even a 3200 IGP type solution would be nice. The intel IGP is great for most of what i need, but I do some light gaming here and there so something better is needed.
All I can say is I love my screen. Yeah it may not be glossy and flashy, but it games and does all the multimedia I want just as well as any multimedia screen can.
See Im the type of person that saw no real difference luggin a 12in around campus or my 17in. The only PC that seemed to make a difference was a netbook, and that was just a pain to use for anything at all.
I can sit and be just as comfortable on the couch with my t400 (or even my vostro when i had it) as anyone can with a netbook. My acer aspire one was small and light, but so is any notebook 14in and smaller. Plus I have the resolution to do more then one thing at a given time, and I dont have to do as much scrolling either! Now give a netbook a respectable resolution and Im game. I want the sony viao P, but cant justify 900+ for a netbook.
Just got my x200s
