The build quality is much better than my old Sony Z and Dell.It just feels quality...

The screen is a little smaller than my old 13.3, but I did not find the screen brightness that bad..I like the matt finish

Well so far I love this Thinkpad!

X201 is the best ultraportable on the market. Congrats.

You probably gotten a lemon, or perhaps your expectations were high. My t410s is pretty solid, but it's not exactly a "tank". I would be worried if it fell three feet just like any other notebook.

Same applies to my T410, its solid, but not built like tank unlike many others seem to think :D
And I too would be worried if I dropped it.
I think that my R400 might have had better drop-test durability, at least it felt so given it was bigger than my T410 is, false alarm I guess, but still, it looked like brick :D!

Comparing a ThinkPad to a Z is like comparing a Maserati to a BMW. Incidentally, which Dell notebook did you have? Many of the older Latitudes can match the durability of the ThinkPads.

Which x201 did you get or just the x201?

    I had an older latitude..

This computer is very well built, maybe some of you die hard Think pad guys think the quality has gone down? But compared to the "JUNK" thats out there,
    this rocks....

Its just rock solid tight no flex everything works..

    The lenovo tools are great...

I'M HOOKED NO OTHER COMPUTER WILL I EVER BUY!

Till you find out that they stuff up your warranty entitlement and move the build date 2 years earlier then refuse to remedy the problem.

Grats on the new computer! Even though quality has gone doe they still make some decently tough notebooks.

I dont know the alienware m11x was a tough little bugger and packed some serious power. Now if only they went the right way and put an ati card in it...

My X200 an X200t are good as any ThinkPad I've used. IBM made some lemons too.

The M11x is great if you're a gamer, but at 4.5 pounds, it's not really an ultraportable in my opinion.

Then buy m11x. See you around on AW forum when you start replacing hinges, rubber feet, and fixing other bugs. It's a junk laptop, imo. Apart from the fact that it's hardly a productivity laptop (very cramped keyboard, small screen with high res, glossy screen, etc.)

I agree I wouldn't call it the 'ultraportable' either.

I would second that. The M11x has too many issues, and funny enough our display M11x hinges just popped out so we had to RMA to Dell.

It is ultra portable...compared to other Alienwares, but no way near like an x201 or a Latitude 13.

Which one is like the maserati and which is like the bmw? Youre not suggesting thinkpads are the maserati of notebooks are you? Thinkpads are definately more BMW and Z definately more maserati as reflected by comparison of cost difference, delicacy of the components, design for premium exclusivity, etc.
