    I just dropped $2400 CAD on a T60p 8744J2U.

Let's hope it lives as long as my T21. The T21 still works but the 384 MB of RAM and PIII and 8MB S3 video just isn't cutting it anymore.

So what is that, like 5 - 6 years of usage? Well you certainly know how to stretch out a laptop and treat it well. I think the T60 will do as well if you take care of it, good luck with it, kudos on a good choice!

    5 YEARS... 5 YEARS!

That's a long time...think of it this way: if your new notebook lasts as long, you pay $2400/5 (or only $480) a year to use it so to speak. Doesn't that sound better than $2400? ;)

That's how I justify my spending almost $3000 on this laptop...$22xx at purchase and another $800 in a docking station, battery, Vista upgrade, external backup HDD, warranty upgrade to include at home service and accidental coverage etc...just keep it as long as I can.

Thank you, both. Well I got 4 years out of it. I bought it for $800 CDN off lease. The T21 is such a great machine.

I'm with you Night ... I don't feel like filling a landfill with my toys. I think I'll buy the T21 a new battery and give it to my Dad. It's a fine web surfing machine now.

Chances are it'll last forever. My father's still using a thinkpad 570e with 256megs of ram and a P2 - 400mhz which is about 7 years old. It can even run windows xp.

My wifes T23 is still going strong. Now that she has a new X60s I am going to turn it into a Windows Home Server box just to test it out... after that I don't know. Seems a pity to not have a use for a still very usable laptop
