The T500 is something I really want. Switchable HD3650 and integrated graphics! DDR3 memory! Damn... However I am a little pissed off now.

I need a laptop before college stops but I heard these laptops aren't coming out until September. Plus, I can't imagine how expensive such a laptop would be. Any chances this thing comes out in August and will cost less then 2k?

Just about? So you are thinking they will be under 800 for the base model with montevina? I might just have to wait until the beginning of August.

Well you have to expect some increase in price. I figure if its going to cost "about the same" then I'm guessing only a couple of hundred bucks more (which is rather fair if you think about it).

Yeah, probably a couple 100 dollars more (maybe the non-"sale" price of the current series?) but again, aug 5th is not a guarantee, just speculation.

Hey guys, do you think that with ~1300$ we can have a T400 with CPU T9400, 1GB DDR3, 160GB HDD, VGA ATi mobility Radeon HD 3470 256MB?

I highly doubt that, including LED screen? the hard drive is about 80$ upgrade depends if you get 5400 or 7200. If you go with the default processor, the P8400 instead of the T400 it will be cheaper. Im going to guess the card upgrade is going to be about 125$. Also, upgrading the ram will be pretty expensive right now with the DDR3 ram.

I have to agree some of these estimated price points are a bit off. I have followed notebooks for a handfull years, and one thing has always been the theme. A moderately priced base system, with high priced upgrades. I would bet that setup would around 1700 to 1900. Just my educated guess.

1700-1900 is def a little high. If you want LED, graphics card, bigger battery, RAM (even upgrading yourself) be prepared to pay at least 1400-1500. I think the cheapest 1G DDR3 ram for laptops on newegg.com is about 60$

    Well, go here, www.shopblt.com
type in Lenovo T500 in the search box.
    BT33259 20823HU TOPSELLER T500 P8400 2.26G 2GB 160GB DVDRW 15.4-WSXGA+ BT BFP XPP $1,274.07
    BT33257 224233U TOPSELLER T500 P8400 2.26G 2GB 160GB DVDRW 15.4-WXGA BFP XPP $1,109.85
    BT33258 224235U TOPSELLER T500 P8400 2.26G 2GB 160GB DVDRW 15.4-WXGA BT BFP XPP $1,158.14

    BT33256 2765T6U TOPSELLER T400 P8400 2.26G 2GB 160GB DVDRW 14.1-WXGA+ BT BFP XPP $1,226.85
    BT33254 7417TPU TOPSELLER T400 P8400 2.26G 2GB 160GB DVDRW 14.1-WXGA BFP XPP $1,065.58

So yeah, $1300 is possible, not to mention sales and coupons that Lenovo will likely continue doing so.
For me, the CPP code would solve the problem.

Date is set to 17.08.2008 european time (08.17.2008 USA). This means in the mid of august in USA. So probably end of august or sometime in september in good old Germany. I`m looking forward to get infos about the new thinkpads, because the display of my t60 is crap, dark as a black hole. I hope the t`s and the x200 get nice bright displays, perhaps a affordable x300 without ssd? Otherwise I have to go to dell an look for the new E-series.

I'm sure that the new systems will be nice BUT... I couldn't figure how the new hardware would improve the processing the applications that I use the most, so I just ordered a Refurbished T61 for just over $800. Seemed like a great deal to me.

I tried to balance the cost of the new systems vs the improved performance on the applications that I use the most. The performance differences are marginal but the price difference is substantial so the refurbished T61 seemed like the way to go for me.

If you really want performance wait till 1Q 2009 and get a quad core laptop, those systems are suppose to be 25-50% faster. The T500 will therefore seem SLOW in less than 6-9 mos. Why spend the Big $ for a T500 that will be slow in six months? Doesn't make sense to me.

Hope you enjoy whatever you get.

    Dave

okay prices will not be the same as they are now...they'll be the same list price or around there most likely, but the 1450 dollar t61 i just configured was 2200 list price, and I doubt they will be discounting them at all right at release as per the pricing for the SL series...even with CPP or something theyre only taking off like 30 bux off the price of those, and the T's will start much higher

Technology changes fast...so if you need it now get it. You will always be waiting for the next best thing if you think this way (can't remember how many times I've said this to ppl already).

If the info on shopbit.com is correct then you could have the base config T500 for less than $1.3k. So it shouldn't break your wallet unless you are going to opt for every upgrade.
