and was just attempted to be delivered. But, we weren't home!![]()
Well... I ordered on 10/8/08, received notice that it shipped on 10/11/08 and that it would be delivered on 10/13/08. Well, if I had been home, I would be opening my new T400 right now. Anyway, 5 days total from order to delivery! (I did order a couple of accessories...a bluetooth mouse and a 65W AC adapter).
I have 2 deliveries coming... since one weight 3.5 kg (about 7.75 pounds) I am thinking that is the T400. The other is 0.7 pounds... guessing 1 or both of the extras (mouse, plug).
I will let you all know
-
Wow! You're very close to getting your packages!
Did your packages go through Anchorage, AK?
I have a W500 that shipped from HK 10/11 and it seems that it's been at Anchorage, AK ever since then. I hope it's not a customs issue! -
I believe the custom's issues are after it hits the mainland US and gets stuck or sent back to Alaska...or at least thats how it seems from reading about others' experiences with their x200 shipments. Go pick it up from the UPS depot later tonight op!
-
wow, that's alot faster than my T500... (sig)
i order on the 2nd of Oct 2008... still waiting... I' going call them right away! -
They did go through Anchorage... I think everything was OK.
Now, I am assuming that the actual laptop is in one of the packages. I cannot believe that, if shipped separately, the mouse or the 65W AC plug would weigh over 7 pounds, even with shipping cartons and packing. BUT... it may not be the laptop...but I really think it is.
I may go pick it up... I am teaching until about 7:00 PM though... we shall see..
Oh, I did pony up $25 for 2-day shipping... Kinda wasted the student free shipping, but I figured it was worth it.. -

tony,
My packages came through UPS. I missed their delivery attempt as well, but all you have to do is call the number on the little sticky note they leave on your door. Tell them to hold the package and pick it up yourself at their distribution center. I did this twice and it worked out great. That way you won't have to sit and wait for the delivery. Not to mention that they will try to deliver a few times, and if all attempts fails they will send your packages back to Lenovo, and you don't want that!
-
Yeah, I've done that before with UPS (gone to the center to pick up). I am in class tonight until 7 PM... I wouldn't expect getting to the pick up much before 8 or even 8:30... But, I am going to make the call and see...
-
When I picked up mine they told me to come by between 9pm and 11pm. Might differ for you however.
-
WOW...cool. Well, I am in Columbus, OH which is THE distribution capital of the United States (I read somewhere that like 70% or so of the US population is within 500 miles of Columbus)>
We have a HUGE UPS distribution center on the west side of town... trucks in and out all night it seems. SO...maybe -
i was lucky... my ups deliver truck came twice on the same day
on a side note.. when i called them for a pick up (i didn't realize they were going to come a second time on the same day)... they said that i couldn't pick it up until the next day because they unload the truck during midnight....
so the whole late night pick up i think varies from your distribution center....
good luck though -
So, I called the number (or, my wife did) and they did not give us an option to pick up my package. Which was for the best. The heavier package (computer) was not part of the delivery, I think. I checked online this morning and the 3.5kg package just entered Columbus this morning...
And... the Eagle has landed. I have my T400 charging at home. It was so hard to come to the office. Now, I have had a couple of Compaqs and most recently a Fujitsu Tablet for comparison.
I haven't really had a chance to work with the new T400, so I will refrain from early comments other than I like the look of it... I like the 'colorful' Sonys, but I like the 'hey, this is serious ****' look of the ThinkPad...

Thats weird, something is not right. All I had to do was call the number on the sticky note they leave at the door. I was eventually connected to a CS rep. I asked that the package be held for me to pick up. They said ok and I went and picked it up. I did this twice with 2 different thinkpads I have ordered over the last few months, no problems. Don't know why they didn't allow you
-
Well, maybe I could have pushed it... but, I think it was just the mouse and powercord on the first day... and today the whole thing was delivered.
-
intel gma ??
ACK !!
just leave it with UPS

Well the important thing is that you have it. Let us know how you like it.
I have ordered a mouse from Lenovo and it should be arriving in a coupe of days. I will also ask this to be held for pickup, so I will be testing UPS's package hold process again soon. -
Once I am into it a bit more, I will. I tried to make my recovery discs last night, what a stupid I am
I got the DVD ROM and CD-RW thinking I have a desktop to burn DVDs when needed, and I can do what I need with CDs here. Of course, all I had at home was DVD-R media. So, after a half hour of 'why won't the f-ing think burn' I remember that it was ROM for DVD...
Ah me..
I have a Hitachi 5K320 on the way from newegg. $70 with rebate. I thought about the 7200, but the $40 price diff and the super reviews (many seem to think this 5400 is comparable to many 7200 drives out there).

I think you will need something like 9 CD-R discs to create the recovery discs. -
So how does this work? Does UPS call you and ask when you will be home to pick it up?
-
crap. I thought it might be to darn many.
Oh, I am not sure how to post this, but...
in the battery compartment, just under the connection port (where the batt and laptop actually connect) is a thin plasticy clear tab. It has green arrows on it, 1 pointing 'into' the computer and 1 point 'out the back'. It seems to be attached to a whie card about the size of and SD memory card (like for the digital camera). It (the clear piece) has a diagram that looks similar to an SD card.
What's that about? I know that sometimes there are placeholders and such to be removed. I gave a pull, but it did not come out easily and, since it didn't interfere with the batt connection, I didn't push (or, I guess pull) the issue.
Any help...
Thanks -

Yes, I wondered the same thing about that plastic tab. Kind of reminded me of the tab that you pull out for new laser toner cartrages. I don't think it is meant to be pulled out. I think I left mine alone. I will double check tonight, don't remember for sure. Just leave it alone. -
Oh, I get to provide you with an answer. I also asked about that thing in a separate thread... SD card in t400 battery compartment?
And, the responses are that it is a SIM card. Related to WWAN I think. So, it is either that card or a 'placeholder' for that card. -
You call them after they make an attempt to deliver. You request them to hold your package and they give you a time frame when they will have it available at your local warehouse.
-
The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
No. What they do is that they try to deliver the package whenever they get to your house. If you are not there they will take the package back with them and will try to deliver again the next day leaving a sticky note on your door letting you know when they tried. They will not leave the package or allow you to leave them a release form. Apparently, Lenovo is very strict about this, as I was told by UPS. They must have you sign for the package for them to release the package to you. The other option is that you call the number on the back of the sticky note and talk to a CS person. Ask them to hold your package and you will be by the warehouse to pick it up. I think they collect the order number or something from you over the phone, and place your box aside in the warehouse for pick up, so that it does not get loaded on the truck again for the next day delivery. All you have to do is go to the warehouse and bring your id. You will need to sign(and show id) and you have your item. Be aware that they will try to deliver you package like 3 times and if you are not home they will keep the package at the warehouse for you to call, for a few more days. It they can't get the package to you then they send it back to Lenovo.
Just missed the delivery! (5 day total turnaround)
