    Ordered from Lenovo Outlet:

    Thinkpad X61s
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo L7500 LV (1.6GHz, 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB)
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
12.1" UltraLight XGA TFT, 2x3 UltraConnect II antenna
    1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory,
    Intel Turbo Memory 1GB
80GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm Serial ATA (2.5")
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
    1 Year Standard Depot Warranty
ThinkPad X60s Series 4 cell Slim Line Battery

    $817

What do you guys think? I know the specs aren't the greatest but price-wise, I don't think I can beat this.

I was initially going to order a CTO model for $1156 with:
    1.8 Ghz
    100 GB 7200 rpm
    Fingerprint reader
    Bluetooth
    Intel AGN wireless card

I figured, those upgrades are not worth $340 although I really wanted 1.8 Ghz and fingerprint reader but oh well...

    Please comment. Thanks.

    Questions:
    1) Should I install Vista ultimate or XP? I have the Intel Turbo memory so I'd hate to waste it on XP but which would run faster?

    2) Is there a significant difference in performance between 1.8 Ghz and 1.6 Ghz?

great move...the specs you did not get are the ones I never use/need for my use...to have such a beefy laptop in a small footprint for under $850 is a deal. I'm curious to see how you like the 4 cell slim line...the laptop should be really light. Put XP on there and you are set.

Yea, I'm pretty excited. How long does it usually take to ship Outlet purchases? I just hope they didn't make any mistake in the specs because this price almost seems too good to be true.

The same configuration on Lenovo's website even with the current sale + CPP + 10% off is: $1,002.46

I hope they will surprise me with a X6 ultrabase dock as well, like the way it happened to one of the other forum members here. Not really counting on it but that will definitely make my day.

Not wanting to create yet another "just pulled the trigger" thread, I will just add that I just ordered a t61.

    Lenovo Thinkpad T61:
Does anyone know approximately how long it takes lenovo, from the moment I authorized the order, to deliver to my doorstep my new thinkpad?

    Thanks

On Thursday I ordered from their outlet:

Should be a powerhouse. I'm incredibly excited. Unfortunately I still have yet to receive my purchase confirmation and it's making me very antsy.

Also just ordered my t61. Ordered mine over the phone through their Visa cardholder program. Got email confirmation immediately.

    Total: $1293.15

Decided to go with onsite service because I remember never sending my t40 in for repairs for fear of not getting it back for months. Thinkpad protection cause I just had a baby and in 2 years I just know he'll be spilling all kinds of stuff all over my laptop.

I'm having second thoughts on my purchase. I know it is a great price for what I'm getting, but I really wanted 1.8 Ghz, 7200 rpm HD, fingerprint, BT, Intel AGN. I just missed out on another good price that had all that I wanted above except no ultralight screen go for $930. Maybe I should cancel and wait? It looks like if I wait long enough, I can probably find the exact specs I want for about $930-$950. I wish Lenovo would hurry up and update their outlet again.

T61p and it came out to be $1520

Seems like a great price for those specs. If only they would send me a confirmation.

I think I will give them a call.

Anyone here concerned about the poor user reviews the T61 has received? I can configure one for about $980 with pretty good specs but I'm hesitant b/c of what I've read. I'm looking at this and the 1525, and would rather go with the t61. However, poor reviews are scarying my off.

I used to have a Thinkpad (T22) and absolutely loved it. however, I read postings around the net i.e. Cnet etc.. with current owners saying that Lenovo is not keeping the Thinkpad up to usual standards.

I haven't received mine yet, obviously, but I have seen no such negative reviews. Cnet have given Lenovo Thinkpads generally great reviews.

Cnet gave the Lenovo good reviews but the users gave the T61 and T61p 4.6 and 7.1 respectively. Nothing to write home about. I know people tend to ***** about everything so I'll keep that in mind.

I read tons of reviews before I ordered a T61 (hasn't been shipped yet). The user response stuff on Cnet was bad. Stuff like that almost got me to buy a D630. I was just about to pull the trigger on the D630 but went for the T61.

So, yes, some of the user response was bad, but I wouldn't say that the larger reviews were bad. Some were very good and most were good, maybe a 7 or 8 out of 10 on average. I get the feeling that a lot of the T61's negative responses stem from 3 things: thinkvantage software causing problems, battery life, and lenovo's customer service. For me it came down to the safe route of a dell system that was kinda boring but if you had problems with you could basically return for free over and over, or the more exciting T61 with better features but more risk (15% restocking fee, thinkvantage, etc.). I figure I can always get rid of thinkvantage and I got a media bay battery to deal with the battery life issue, so its really only their restocking fee that scares me.

I guess I didn't pay attention to the user reviews. Maybe I should have. But most of the research I did on the T61p yielded plenty of positives that attracted me to it, plus the fact that for the price no other brand could offer me the same configuration for a similar price, and even if one did, I probably would have still chosen the Lenovo.

Though many make fun of the Thinkpads as looking really old and ugly, I like the way they look. They are rugged and functional and don't have any gimmicky BS. Before I started seriously considering the Thinkpad, I was looking pretty intently at the Dell XPS m1530. I started looking at the Thinkpad because it offered very similar options, plus some, for a similar price. spec and prise wise Lenovo was coming out the winner. My last concern were aesthetics. After messing with the Dell at Best Buy, I was sold on the Thinkpad. While rather compact for what's packed in, the Dell's case and keyboard just felt cheap to me.

Hopefully when I finally receive my Thinkpad and put it to real use, I will be assured that I made the right choice. But as it stands now, I feel good about my choice. Except for the seeming sluggishness of the Outlet division to get their stuff shipped out. *sigh*

I'm thinking of getting this configuration new for $1215, is it an okay deal? Or should I look elsewhere / get a refurb?

    X61
    T8300 (2.4GHz, 3MB L2, 800MHz FSB)
12.1 XGA (I wish they still offered SXGA screens...)
    2GB RAM
    120GB 5400rpm HD
    X6 Ultrabase w/ DVD Recorder
    Bluetooth + Wifi
    8-cell batt

    Thanks guys!

i think that is a great price. Where are you getting that from? You are getting a Penryn processor plus the ultrabase and DVD writer.

I'm getting it through my university connection, but looking at some of the outlet deals, it seems that I could save $200-300 just by dropping the ultrabase, dvd, and penryn advantage.

I'm quite excited. I just got my first laptop in close to 7 years! I was too tired waiting around for the X61 with Peryn... and with the current deals (22% off + 20% off w/ ecoupon + free shipping) I decided it was time to make my move. Here's my system:

the estimated ship date is 4/11/2008 and it's being shipped with UPS ground. Anyone have an idea when I can expect it? What do you guys think of the deal?

that's all they had on the lenovo site... if it's too big I can just return it. (belkin has a lifetime warrenty, so maybe I'll be able to trade it for a 14" model that I found on the Belkin site) The extra space doesn't really matter because it's going to be going in my backpack. Do you think it's going to be a problem?

no but its like stuffing a standard size pillow into a king size pillowcase...no point. I'd try out the extra small... http://www.case-pc.com/products.html
