Hey guys, I got the T420 just a few weeks ago and I do love it and the screen is still great BUT I only just noticed how bad the vertical viewing angle is when viewing a movie, especially with an all black background.

I just couldnt stand it so I just caved in and ordered the T520. If the T520 is built anything like the T420 (keyboard quality basically) I'd be fine with its bigger size. I just cant wait to see the FHD screen!

Anyone need a T420, if so pm me! :D

That sounds just like the previous-gen T410 I saw at my University's bookstore. Good quality screen, no complaints there, but when tilting the display backwards the entire color spectrum inverted. (It was the WXGA+)

Are the horizontal viewing angles ok on your LG screen?

To be quite honest, the vertical angle on my T420 is not bad when doing everything else except watching movies.

Watching anime or animation type videos is fine but you have to tilt the screen a bit forward so whenever a black background scene shows up it wont end up looking like a hologram.

But the real problem is watching non animated movies. Whenever its a dark/black scene, the screen needs to be tilted a bit forward to be able to view darker scenes but it holograms out real easily if its tilted a bit too far back.

Now using the display in everyday situation for browsing the web or typing a word document or excel, the screen looks very crisp and clean but I do watch a lot of movies in bed and I just couldnt take the vertical viewing angle.

It sure was a VERY hard decision on my part as I love this T420 to death and I lucked out on getting a very near perfect build imo. Keyboard is rock solid, screen is rock solid, no creaks anywhere, everything seems like a tight perfect fit all around and I absolutely love this keyboard and the screen on most part is still very crisp and clean.

My question is, anyone here owned the 17" hi resolution antiglare macbook pro before??

If so, does this fhd screen compare to the macbook pro or is it even better??

I've owned the last 2 generations of the 17" hi resolution antiglare macbook pros and the screens on it were just gorgeous. I hope its about the same quality or even better.

The FHD screen is better in terms of everything except for resolution.

Here are three excellent reviews by notebookcheck.net that include details on the screens in question (the T520 FHD is as for the W520):
    Review Apple MacBook Pro 17 Early 2011 (2.2 GHz quad-core, glare-type screen) - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
Review Lenovo ThinkPad W520 Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

Though the WUXGA (1920x1200) on the 17" Macbook Pro is a higher resolution than the FHD (1920x1080) on the T520, the pixel density (PPI) of the 15.6" FHD is 6% higher (141) than the 17" WUXGA (133).

I'm just glad I didnt pull the trigger yesterday as a new coupon popped up from the barnes and noble lenovo site for $95 off on the T520 with the FHD screen.

Total came out to $855 with the 2.3GHz 2410M. Not to bad considering I'm getting the FHD screen. :D

as I told you you won't regret your choice. the FHD is a big step up from the T420's HD+ screen no matter who the manufacturer is.

when it arrives, you may want to use the color profile posted on Notebookcheck's W520 review page. also, note, that firefox is the browser that color manages.

If the FHD screen is anything like the 17" hi resolution macbook pro (and judging by the reviews it seems to be even better!), I know I will love the display. Thanks guys!

Now my only worry is dead/stuck pixels as even 1 will torment me.

Finally got my shipping notification yesterday and its in AK Anchorage today around 11am.

Does anyone know if UPS delivers on Saturday, even on a standard ups ground option??

Its 4th of July this Monday and if they dont deliver on Saturday, looks like I'll be getting it on Tuesday. I dont mind receiving it on Tuesday but I wont be home most of the day on Tuesday..

On a positive note, my T420 sold pretty quickly.

They usually don't if a saturday delivery service was not purchased. Besides, expect the package to be in customs for a day or two anyway.

855$? What are other specs, seems too good to be true for fully loaded machine :D!
Im thinking about getting FHD 15.6" laptop as my main machine in the future and quad/octo core tablet with super resolution screen as ultraportable one.
I wish Lenovo started to make laptops with smaller screen borders, like LG, thus squeezing 15" monitor into 14" frame!
Or integrated tablet-like resolution screens with "retina" dpi into regular laptops :D

I only got the FHD screen upgrade as well as the i5 2.3GHz 2410M, and the 3x3 AGN wireless card upgrade.

There was a coupon about a couple of weeks before 4th of July which pushed my total down to $855.

you guys have great prices for those laptops in US. You can barely get T420 with basic i3 setup for that kind of price in UK.

using default color profiles isn't the best options as every screen is different. I would suggest buying calibration device and do it or just borrow one from someone. Difference before and after is amazing!
