This sucks. I just purchased a t420 with base memory and hard drive and now they are offering free upgrades! Talk about bad timing. I wonder if lenovo will let me return mine and repurchase or something. I am supposed to receive my t420 today.

Tried talking to Lenovo and they said there was nothing they could do about it. Sucks!

Configure another laptop with higher price even just a little bit higher. I think you could then return the old one without restocking fee incurred. This is what the answer I got from them. Give them a call to make sure.

you can ask them to price match by giving you a discount refund, depends on what CSR you get though. Either that or do what rogerspass suggested: configuring a different system, get a quote, then call them up to return your original and tell them that you ordered a new one, most of the time they'll let you return it without charging you a 15% fee.

Now the question is why Lenovo themselves didn't suggest that?

Because their workers don't care whether you order a new system or just die after you hang up. Lenovo has the worst customer service there is.
