Hey everyone
I just got quoted for a Thinkpad T61p for $1190. General stats on the system are below (from what I remember):
Intel Core 2 Duo T8100
15.4" WSXGA+
Windows XP Pro
3 Gb RAM
256 Mb nVidia FX570M
120 Gb 5400 RPM Hard disk
Fingerprint reader
6-cell battery (9-cell does not seem to be available)
CDRW/DVD Combo
No extra warranty beyond the standard one. Is this deal too good to pass up? I don't really need this until August, but this sounds like a great deal. I've had horror experiences with laptops (Toshiba) in the past so hopefully this one will be better. This thing has to last through four years of grad school.
Also, one concern I have comes in the quote email I received, which is below:
"This quotation supersedes any previous written or verbal quotations from Lenovo and is valid for thirty (30) days from the date of this letter. Acceptance of this quotation is subject to Lenovo's standard payment terms and availability of the product. Promotional items may be included in the quotation but are valid for seven (7) days from the date of this letter. Ecoupons are not valid past their expiration date. Please note that all promotions have a quantity limit of 5 per customer. All sales are subject to Lenovo's terms and conditions of sales included with the products."
eCoupons seem to not be valid past their normal expiration date even with the
quote. If this is the case, I'd have to order within the next day or so to get this price. Any opinions on this laptop deal are greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I would wait. There are new Thinkpads coming out in the next couple months. Wait until August and buy at the last minute.

I would imagine the new Thinkpad's will be significantly more expensive though. If you're on a budget I would go with the current T61p's.
I bought my Thinkpad in March for university in the Fall and I couldn't be happier, it is more than adequate to meet any computing needs of graduate school IMO. -
Why would they be significantly more expensive? HP, Acer, and every other company are going to use the new Montevina stuff and their prices will be about the same. There is nothing that warrants a huge price hike unless you use the optional SSD. And even if the price increased a little just save $100 a month starting now. It won't be a big deal.

Yeah personally I don't really think prices will change that much when the new models come out, but I just don't think the deals can be matched later on. Right now I have 25% off with the Father's Day promo going, and an additional 10% and 5% (with Visa discount). Those three deals combined got me that price, and I'm not sure they'll have so many discounts when the new Thinkpads are released.
Just quoted for T61p...with concerns
