I need everyone's opinion here, I primarily use my laptop for word processing and internet.

I currently have a T61, one month old, paid $1000 for it,Here are its Specs:
    T7250(2GHz)
    3GB RAM
    160GB 5400rpm HD
    15.4in 1280x800 LCD
    Intel X3100
    CDRW/DVDRW- DVD Burner
    Intel 802.11agn wireless
    Bluetooth
    Modem
    1Gb Ethernet
    UltraNav
    Secure chip
    Fingerprint reader
    6c Li-Ion - I get around 3-4 hours depending on what I'm doing.
OS: Windows Vista Business 32 with COA

Someone offerred me $850 for it.

I'm thinking of getting this for $1200:

    1 month old Lenovo X61s
    -------------------------------------------------

    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo processor L7700 (1.80GHz 800MHz 4MBL2)

Operating system: Genuine Windows Vista Business 64 bit

    Display type: 12.1" XGA TFT

System graphics: Intel GMA X3100 GM965

    Total memory: 4 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 (2 DIMM)

    Keyboard Language: US English Keyboard

    Hard drive: 200GB HDD, 7200rpm

WiFi wireless LAN adapters: ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EU/LA/ANZ

Battery: 8 cell Enhanced Battery (X60s)

Power cord: 65W AC Adapter; NA, LA, (2pin)

Publication Language: English US Publication for Vista

    OFFICE 2007

I would like to get the X61s specifically for it's size, it's pain to lug the 15.4" to and from school/work. But is the extra $350 worth it?

    Thoughts and opinions.

For $350 it's going to cost you, you could probably pick up a used X31 which is more than enough for Internet and Office.

Well in reality it's going to cost me $500 if you consider the $150 I'm losing from selling the T61.

-would you rather get a used ultraportable to go along with the T61 (as suggested), or do you only use new products? Some people hate the residue left behind by previous owners.
-you mentioned it is a pain to lug the T61 to and from work. So clearly weight is the issue. The X61s with 8 cell is a very good solution for you. If you buy a used ultraportable for cheap, will you be able to find a battery for it as well? Add all of that together and see if it ends up cheaper than using the difference to get a new X61s.
-I believe it is worth it to get a lighter computer. I used to carry my desknote dell everyday and then I switched to a laptop half the weight, it felt so much better.
-does it have to be the S and not just X61? you could save yourself a little bit there as well. The X61 achieves great battery life on the 8 cell even with the different processor

I'd buy a X31 but I really don't want to deal with 2 laptops, and to be honest I don't care if it's used but I'm mainly looking at local (toronto) craigslist or kijiji, not looking at getting a brand new unit as it would cost more $$$$. I'm also considering getting a 14.1" T61 if I can find one, I know that will be way smaller than my current 15.4".

I'm checking out the X61s tomorrow and confirming with my buyer if he still wants to buy my laptop. I won't be buying the X61 unless I can sell my T61 for sure.

I just switched up from a T61 to an X61 recently. The lighter weight is nice and the X61 performs very nicely. But I'm having a hard time with the small screen and the absurdly low resolution of the X61 at 1024 x 768. I'm going to give this one to one of our sales road warriors and go back to a 14.1 T61. I'd rather tote the extra 2.5 pounds and have the additional screen real estate.

X200 will be out on July 14. Its resolution is 1280x800. Just two more weeks.

I tried my friend's X61 once. It's really nice, but the temperature of it was much higher than my T61's.

I just switched from a fully loaded T61 14.1 wide to a loaded X40 that was essentially brand new for $360. The thing is plenty for internet and office and light, little games.
Couldn't be happier. I used the undervolting guide here and it runs super quiet and cool.

well I have both now, I took the plunge and then my buyer backed out, I'm loving the X61, it's a lot faster than my T61. And I posted wrong my X61 came with 4gb's of ram. Now I just need to sell my T61 and I'll be all good.

By the way on a side not the, Easy File Transfer for Vista is totally useless. Just my opinion.

I'm surprised to see that the X61 is "a lot faster" than the T61. There's not much change in hardware. Are they both running Vista?

Yup, Vista Business 32 bit for the T61, and Vista Business 64 bit for the X61s.

I think I'm noticing the 7200 RPM on the X61s compared to 5400 RPM HD of the T61.

sounds like a good deal $850 back..but you need to realize the booting time for x61 is like ~ 1 min. w/ vista and it gets hot. maybe you should get the 64gb samsung nand SDD.=)
t61 seems like a good enough.
