I am looking at buying a Lenovo Thinkpad T61p is their any software that comes per installed that I should keep or should I just go ahead and do a clean install of Vista?

My advice is: try it out for a bit first, then decide. ThinkPads do come with a bit of installed software, I went for a Windows XP installation and they included Norton Internet Security, a 60-day trial of Microsoft Office 2007, their usual ThinkVantage suite, and a couple other odds and ends. So far, I've just used it as is, but I've been considering going for a clean install.

Dump the ThinkVantage and if it comes with it dump the Norton software, or do a clean install. Your machine will thank you later.

Clean install is always best.
1. Get rid of all the crap that you don't want (without having to uninstall and cleanup registry entries).
2. Sometimes there's spyware/adware.
3. You'll have the most up-to-date drivers after a good ol' reformat. -
Rescue and recovery allows you to put Windows on your machine with only the programs you want.
