Somewhere I heard (totally don't remember where, I think Lenovo site) that I can keep the WiFi or internet on while I put my computer in sleep. This would be real helpful when I move from the library to class, because AIM is a pain in the butt to reconnect and restart. Any ideas?

Really aim is too difficult to reconnect? Also moving from the library to class would likely make you disconnect anyways? Or be moved over to a new access point where you might have to reconnect anyways.

^Well the hall my class is at is the source of the Wi-Fi I'm connected to in the library. And for some reason, when I try to sign on AIM during class, the browser is speedy but AIM remains at "connecting" for about 20 seconds and then either fails or doesn't show any of my buddies.

I'm almost positive you can't keep your wifi on and connected when in sleep, sleep by definition saves your windows state to ram, and shuts the machine off, keeping only the RAM powered up. How about using a 3rd party client that connects to AIM? Or if you are already using a 3rd party, use a different one. I use one called Digsby, but there are tons of others out there, and I have no issues with it ever, it just signs right on whenever I connect to any wifi.

There's a Power Manager feature called "Instant Resume" that is meant to keep your wireless association for a few minutes when the lid is closed. Right click on PM battery icon to enable and disable it.
-
Power Manager....(Basic View), Left side of screen, under Quick Tasks.
Click "Change what closing the lid does and enable InstantResume to stay online"
In next window, check the check-box for InstantResume, and bump the minutes up to whatever you want (99 minutes max). -
