Hey guys,
While waiting for my T510 to come, I am a little worried seeing this short review from a new T510 owner. It's ridiculous if this is true:

There's no need to fret until you get it. If it doesn't meet your needs you can go from there.
-
@ZaZ,
I hope this is fretting too. If the keyboard does flex as shown in his videos, then it wouldn't work very well for me - I am quite a heavy typer. I even rely on keyboard to do a lot of tasks that are commonly done with mouse.
I wish this is a single exception. And I can get a decent T510 without the flex.
Thanks though ZaZ -
Seems like the new T series has a lot of "child diseases"
-
A Lenovo moderator is following up on that thread. Will need to see how it clears out.
-
No flex at all with my T 410.
Love it! -
so u totally recommend the T410? i am unsure, since their is no official review. i was about to order, but at the moment i am thinking to spend $300 more for a new HP elitebook.
-
It doesn't make sense if the T510 flexes while the T410 doesn't....

thinkpad knows best Notebook Deity
Comical but sad that ThinkPad keyboards are starting to get the worst reputation out there, not to mention that the ThinkPad design seems to look more Chinese "futuristic with lots of curves" every generation.
-
Um... no. The keyboards do not have the worst reputation. Thinkpads just have the most vocal audience that cares a lot about input device of a laptop.
I will agree that the T410 does not have any significant flex while pressing very hard on it. I have no experience with the T510. That wasn't at CES. -
So there is one guy having issues with his keyboard, and people are ranting about it?
I sure do understand the weird switchable graphics issue, but because one guy has a lemon doesn't mean all TP have the same issue. -
The reviewer says its horrible!!! guess somethings never change!
-
Cheaper = Better -
Later on in the thread, the guy has realised that his keyboard support is missing a screw-> going to get a screw from a local place and do some more testing.
-
Yeah. I've been following that too. Hope that's the only cause rather than a design issue.
-
Unless more people experience the same problem, it's better to wait before judging.

thinkpad knows best Notebook Deity
To quote nxman "Cheaper=Better"
This pretty much sums up what i said, and that i think Lenovo wants to gradually make the ThinkPad look like a smooth curvy piece of cheap generic notebook, but whatever, i'll stay with pre 2010 ThinkPads. However, this Chinese inspired philosophy "Cheaper=better" is a result of ourselves, we demand everything cheap cheap cheap, and if you want to at least remotely keep the durability of something, the only thing left to do is to drastically cut down labour costs, hence the reason most of our things are made in China and 3rd world countries, they've diluted or watered the products down too much to go any further, so they reduce labour costs. LETS MIGRATE TO CHINA GUYS, THESE GUYS'll WORK FOR 15 CENTS AN HOUR. -
IMO notebook prices were always the same: <1000€ crap, 1000-1500€ good, >1500€ business quality.
Looking at the prices for the new models I see no cheap cheap cheap either. -
How is the new thinkpad laptop not durable? -

All,
Regarding the keyboard flex - You might check out Icepick's update on this related thread. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T5...nd-the-keyboard-also-flexes/m-p/201114#M21482
This has been now been addressed in manufacturing.

What about T400 and T500 ? You dont care anymore about those ?
-
Have had a T510 for 3 days now and it's the most solid keyboard I've ever owned - and I've owned every model of ThinkPad over the past 8 years.
-
It has been exhausted in discussion already. -
I dont see any progress in tech design really, keyboard flex, plastic flex, this is what we can start seeing really big since T400/T500 ...
