Greetings ans salutations everyone. I decided to take the keys off my keyboard in order to clean them but I am experiencing trouble with the right shift key as when I hit it, it stays down. It looks like it's an NMB keyboard. anyone have any suggestions. I think worse case scenario is that I order a replacement keyboard. Chicony is the best, right? anyone know the model number for it?

Some like Chicony, others NMB.

So no fix?
-
The only fix is replacement. Those keyboards are not meant to be fixed by end users. Actually if you want to clean the keyboard its best not to remove the keys and just wash it, let it dry and then reinstall it.
-
it's strange because the key fits back in properly but it stays down regardless of the small metal bar in place. Where would one go to find a proper fitting replacement for the laptop in my signature?
-
Have you tried removal and reinstallation? Not saying that will solve your problem, but sometimes keys aren't installed quite right and cause a spot of trouble. I would not make a habit of removing keys; usually nothing happens but if you break a clip or key it's a hassle.
-
None of the parts of the key are broken, all of the attachment parts are present. I just can not figure out for the life of me how to make it so the key springs up rather than staying down.
-
so maybe you broke spring, that shifts key up, don't you think?
-
you will need to replace the keyboard if you broke the spring

The piece of metal is fine from what I can tell. How do I post pictures to demonstrate the issue?
-
Host the picture on www.imageshack.us and then paste a direct link here.

When you push down on the white part in the center of the second pic; does that stay down or pop up?
-
the white cylinder part where the electric connection is made? It pops up just like any other key's.
-
note to self: don't pull out keys on keyboard when I get a T61P
-
You have to make sure the metal rods in the third picture go under the black holders in the second picture. Then you press down to snap the key back on.
-
Even with the bar in the holders, no avail.
-
The reason I took the key apart was because it was sticking and I thought it needed cleaning. Maybe its from an entirely different problem. It's time to use that extended warranty.
-
That sounds like a fine time to use it, make sure you try to make it a CRU so you don't have to send it in, instead just do it yourself.

Did that on Wednesday, arrived on Thursday. Hot damn. I'll do the replacement on Friday. i am astonished at how fast it shipped.
