I'm having strange problem with my x220. After I turn on the machine each time, and try to enter the windows login password, the keys in the middle row (A, S, D, F, G......) would not respond; other keys and the " ' do respond. Most times if I wait for a while (sometimes can take some 15 minutes, sometimes less), and re-enter, the keys will work. Turning off and then turning on doesn't seem to change the fact.

    What could be the cause?

I fear one day the keys will not work even if I wait.

No comments? it's getting worse. Just now it took 2 hours waiting, with several restart and shutdown, and eventually was able to enter the password and logon, without the faintest idea why it finally worked. The G, H and " keys worked, all other keys in that row didn't.

No bumps for 24 hours, per the forum rules. This is a free forum. Perhaps if you expect better, you should be paying someone.

I would suggest booting to a Linux disc. If the keyboard works, it's a Windows issue. If not, maybe there's something wrong with the keyboard. Have you tried re-seating the keyboard cable?

Thanks. I didn't mean to bump, just to update with the worse happening...I don't have Linux disc and am very layman :p. The keyboard does work as you see I'm typing all these without problem. But tonight it's driving me crazy when I had to wait and try repeatedly for hours. So I have just changed my password so it will not use those keys  But it's still a problem I have to keep in mind. Pray it will not become infectious and extend to other keys....

After I changed password, I can log in immediately, but you know what, I'd still have trouble typing some letters, such as if I wanted to type this post within 10 minutes of having started up (or back from sleep mode). But at least I could still browse the Web and copy and paste some letters . After googling I found I'm not the only one with the problem...

What was the solution in the other cases? Obviously, if you've got another keyboard laying around to swap out that would be helpful. If you're still under warranty, I would be calling support.
