    Hey everyone,

Both my parents love their thinkpads (specifically for the trackpoint mouse interface), but the thinkpads they have are ancient (pentium 3s). I recently bought my dad a t60 (just before the SR update) and he is really happy with it but my mom had a qualm about the t60's keyboard saying it was too small. Her current laptop is an r series (r40 i think).

My plan was to buy her a laptop for mother's day (at least show her the order confirmation screen :p) and I want to make sure it is one she will use.

I really want to get her the r61 or a 15" r60, but I wanted to make sure the keyboard size was the same as previous r series -- namely that it was full keyboard size and bigger than that in the t60.

anyone know for sure, or can provide me with more details?

    thanks

T and R (and Z) series have the exact same sized keyboards. The T series looks and feels smaller because of the flatter palm rest, but in fact they are all the same.

have the keyboard sizes changed over the years? -- or have they always been the same?

I compared the R (non widescreen) that my mom has to the T widescreen that my dad just got and there was definitely a visible difference -- maybe it is all an optical illusion -- will have to check again when i get back

on the lenovo site, both are listed as full size keyboards though

Keyboard sizes are actually larger now because notebooks have become bigger and bigger. I have an R32 here and the keyboard is exactly the same size as the T60/Z61t at work, but of course difference colors. My personal R52's keyboard is identical to the R32 but the screw holes are placed differently.

    Wow

    Thanks for all the information.

I'll have to tell my mom -- hopefully she'll be more interested in getting one of the new laptops.

Do you know if the keyboard sizes are the same between the 14.1 and 15.4 inch models?

The T60 14.1 and 15.4 and Z61t all use the same keyboard parts, so they have to be identical. :) Of course, the widescreen models have speakers to the sides of the keyboard.
