    Hello.

I wanted to know about ThinkPad Protection Service. Is it included in the warranty or is it something external?
I was cleaning my laptop the other day and a key just chipped out so was wondering if the my warrenty/Thinkpad Protection Service would cover it.
My machine is 4 months old and is still under warrenty
    Let me know.
    Thanks
    Kunal Ahuja

Gray area - it would definitely be covered by the warranty if it popped off during normal use... Is cleaning normal use? Depends on how you were cleaning it. If you were cleaning according to the instructions in the manual, it is definitely covered. Probably if you called service and just said that it came off, they would cover it. Protection Service covers accidental damage, and costs extra.

AFAIK, in Australia, this problem is not covered under warranty..

I know so because I used to work at RMA department..

once we had some fool trying to claim warranty on cracked screen.... he was furious etc etc claiming that the laptop screen is so fragile that it couldnt withstand having a couple of so called 'light things' piled up on top of it..

in the end we politely offered him 1) replacement monitor for AUD $400 or 2) if he is unhappy, he can call Fair Trading so that they can explain to him what constitues warranty and 'normal' use.

    Hello,

Have you tried popping the key back in, or is it damaged?
