Any random crashes or BSOD's with the x220?
I stress my machines very hard.
Thanks!

I have not had any...and I have been using it nearly 24/7 as my main PC. solid as a rock.

8GB Kingston 1333: 3dmark 06: 5050
8GB Kingston HyerX 1866: 3dmark 06: 5284 (shmed's result)
Seems that the a higher memory clock speed has less effects than
upgrading from 4GB to 8GB dual channel.
The approximate score for X220 4GB ram was around 3300.
If the score is accurate then it means that you'll still get pretty decent improvement just from putting an extra ram into the system -
It's been a long time since I did any overclocking, but back then I was under the impression that unless you utilize the higher RAM speed with a higher FSB, it's better to go with a lower frequency stick with tighter timings. Have things changed? Granted this was on an old architecture, when the mem controller wasn't integrated and everything had it's own clock.

Modern RAM contains built-in timings for a range of frequencies. My Kingston HyperX 1600MHz modules have these timings:
Timing @ 444MHz : 5-5-5-15
Timing @ 533MHz : 6-6-6-18
Timing @ 622MHz : 7-7-7-21
Timing @ 711MHz : 8-8-8-24
Timing @ 800MHz : 9-9-9-27
Timing @ 889MHz : 10-10-10-30
Timing @ 978MHz : 11-11-11-33
So, for example, they are CL6 at 1066MHz (533 x DDR). However, the slightly lower latencies do not have a major impact on performance.

My stock x220t score 3dmark06 was 3305 for comparison. i5 2520, 4gb (x1) 1333, lenovo drivers. i plan on upgrading the ram to at least dual 1600 and will re-run.

Kingston HyperX 1866mhz really boost intel HD 3000 (on x220)
