I bought Kingston 1 GB RAM KVR667D2SO from Buy.com deal for $40, given at fol link:-
http://www.buy.com/prod/kingston-1g...m-ddr2-laptop-memory/q/loc/101/204884016.html
Kingston ValueRAM DDR2 SODIMMs page at kingston.com does not mention this RAM.
http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/default.asp#DDR2 400MHz, 533MHz, 667MHz and 800MHz
I want to know the technical features / Latency of this RAM for compatibility with my laptop IBM/Lenovo T61 (7658). I inquired from Kingston and they said that it is similar to KVR667D2S5/512. They also said that it is not recommended for your system.![]()
I do not know much about latency issue but was trying to match CLS-5 latency memory already in my laptop.
Any experience/suggestions???![]()
I bought it by just matching 1GB PC2 DDR 200pin SO DIMM.
Should I go ahead and put it in my T61( My first laptop venture).

Do not put ValueRam in a Thinkpad, even if the specs seem to match. I did, and it caused BSODs. Kingston makes a specific RAM for Thinkpads... which of course costs more...

Don't pay attention to what they say.
Really.
Just about any 200 pin DDR2 SO-DIMM will work without any problems. -
I've tried several differently branded "Value" SO-DIMMS, mixed and matched, by brand and capacity.
Never a problem. -

i thought as long as the generations matched, you were A ok

Buy whatever value ram you want. The only reason people have more trouble with it is because of its higher failure rates in general. Thinpads use the same chipsets and hardware as practically all intel notebooks these days so the above advise is illogical. If the ram is defective you can always rma it at newegg.com until you get a good one.

That said I exclusively run Kingston in *all* of my custom builds, as well as my thinkpads. Never ran into any problems in my laptops with it. Decent prices depending on where you shop, and their RMA program is excellent. The one time I had to use it (old DDR ram that got zapped with static) I had a replacement stick at my door in about 3 days, no cost to me. They paid both ways of shipping. -
Hey, it's possible that you're all right and Lenovo and Kingston's tech support is wrong!
Either way, I really don't care that much.

That's all. -
My Corsair RAM said VALUE on it. Works like a dream.

I also think any brand is fine when it comes to laptop RAM. The important thing is to test RAM with memtest when you install it. It doesn't matter if you buy value RAM or Cadillac RAM, any of them can be faulty right out of the box. Or they can go bad later on. Look for a lifetime warranty (that's almost all brands) and buy for the price. My .02

1. If I place Kingston ValueRAM, nothing happens and system shows 2GB memory. Do I still need to run memtest86+?
2. If worst case scenario does materialize, and BSODs or some other problem occurs, WOULD IT BE BACK TO NORMAL IF I STOP EVERYTHING AND TAKE OUT THE DAMN RAM.
3. I will be almost ready to slam in my RAM after your nice input on this one. -
So....which brand/model do you guys recommend?
I am planning on adding 4Gb to the T61 "I may receive some day".
I also thought it would not make a difference as long as you go with a known brand. -
my T61 works fine with my "normal" 1gb kingston ddr667 sodimm
-
2. Everything should be back to "normal" if you just remove the bad RAM and replace it with "good" RAM.
3. Slam it!!! Just remember not to install your ram while standing on carpet. Make sure to touch something metal to release any static charge you may have in your body. That can easily zap and ruin your new RAM! Some people even wear rubber/latex medical type gloves while doing this. That's probably overkill, but it works.

I did put in the Kingston 1GB ValueRAM PC2 DDR2 667 Mhz in my T61 and it worked well. Running Fast. Also ran memtest86+ today and it gave no error for my system memory.
Now T7300 2GB RAM.
Thanks to you all.
