I have a problem that is hard to duplicate and it happens intermittently, somethimes two times in an hour, and often nothing happens for 6+ hours.
This is what happens. The LCD monitor light goes completely off. I can tell that the monitor itself is working, but is is VERY DARK. I'm able to see the screen only in a super lit area. And even then the screen is dim.
Now, when the light is off, I'm able to open and close programs and I'm able to shut my computer down without any errors that I see.
When I boot up, the screen woks fine. Also, if the screen light goes out on me, putting the computer to sleep and waking it up (FN+F4) x 2 fixes the backlight.
Question - does this appear to be software or hardware related?
If it is a software related issue, then where can I get the fix?
I'm covered by the warranty until 10/2005 and will be sending it to IBM for 5+ days. I'd rather avoid doing that if all I need is a software fix.
Thanks,
VK

it sounds like it is software related from your description. Perhaps its something like windows powersaver that tries to turn off your display. I'm guessing its software because you can get the screen to work again when you restart/wake from hibernation. If its not too much of a hassle try with a fresh copy of windows. If not try disabling all the powersaving, hibernation, screen off time, HD off time, etc... features on the laptop and see how that affects your display. Otherwise send it back to IBM and let them deal with it.
