Hi, is it really so that the often folding of the laptop causes the LCD to die ?
due to some busted wires ? .when i bought my lenovo last year, I used to fold it and keep it inside the bag every after usage, but then after 3 months, it doesn't start anymore, i can see the led lights, but there's no response from the LCD. after it got repaired by the warranty, I don't fold it anymore and leave it unfolded everyday, it seem to last longer.
Or am I wrong and there must be some other reasons why LCD of laptops die ?

The LCD itself is not folded. You mean the notebook? It probably crapped out on you becuase you are not taking care of it properly ie transporting it in a notebook bag with good padding rather than tossing it in your gym bag or carrying it in a paper bag and plopping it down on a hard surface like its a can of Old English Malt liquor?

yeah i mean the notebook, am not a tech guy, but i was wondering if its the wires being ed up due to frequent notebook fold ?

ok great, thanks for clearing that up

Baldwin,
There is no evidence of abuse in nemo's description. His problem can be a bad inverter, which he cannot really "abuse". I don't know what makes you jump to the conclusion that nemo abused his machine.
Opening and closing the LCD lid is not abuse. For a ThinkPad (assuming that Nemo has a ThinkPad), tossing it in a gym bag without padding is normal use, not abuse. ThinkPads are built to withstand wear and tear. They are a workhorse, not a delicate flower.
I think nemo just got unlucky. Good thing that the warranty took care of it. -
btw, i saw a video tutorial from the lenovo site, and it seem like the lcd wire is not a "FLAT" type

My LCD cable IS a flat cable, the power wires is not.

The wires that run to the LCD have plenty of slack. If you take apart the hinge, you'll notice this.
I would hope modern engineering would of overcome something as simple as opening and closing a laptop. I mean come on, we sent a guy to the moon! -
it's damn near impossible to "break" an lcd cable, or any cable that runs from the main body of the notebook to the screen. stop worrying

Usually, the backlight or the inverter would go out b4 the wiring does.

This is what people at the Yamato Labs (who actually design ThinkPads, dating back when they were sold by IBM) have to say about the hinge mechanism on ThinkPads. Nothing specifically on cabling, but clearly the tests should catch any wear problems caused by opening and closing the lid.
