i know it's not a macbook pro but i really wanted a clear backlit screen. its a thinkpad edge 14 0576-65U

its fairly new, when i changed to a dark wallpaper i noticed that the bottom of the screen is much more illuminated then the top - so there is always a glow no matter what is the angle. (on all brightness levels)

is it defect? is it just the quality of the screen? any tools to detect that?

Unfortunately no tools or any miracle solutions to fix the uneven backlight.

It's too bad really, Lenovo would have such a perfect product if it weren't for the mediocre screens...

It's really two separate issues - crappy quality TN panels and poor distribution of the backlight.

You could try posting some pictures - it may help assess the issue you're having.
