    Hi.
    I just bought Lenovo Ideapad Y450 - 4189-66U.
It has Intel P8700 CPU installed. Can I upgrade the CPU to T9900?
Or which CPU can I upgrade to?

    Do you suggest any other?

    Thanks

If you're looking for a performance increase, get a SSD. It more than the T9900 will make your machine seem faster.

I believe it is possible, as the Y450 most likely does not have a soldered-in CPU.

However, you will most likely void your warranty by upgrading the CPU, and besides, upgrading from a P8700 to a T9900 is a waste of money unless you do a lot of CPU-bottlenecked tasks such as video conversion (but if you do, you probably should've opted for a computer with a quad-core). In addition, your machine may run warmer as the T9900 does use more power.

What do you think about P9700? Power almost the same with P8700.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what's the point of buying a machine you have to upgrade the day you get it (I mean disk/RAM is ok, but CPU?)?? Why don't you get something better that satisfies your current requirements in the first place?

I wanted something really portable and cheap with upgrade possibilities. I got this on ebay for a very good price and I wanted to make it faster. The new laptops with P9700 or the T9xxx series are unfortable.

It's a waste of time and money if you ask me. Unless as already noted, you're running handbrake all day, a new CPU will make no difference.
