Hello,
I've got a Lenovo Thinkpad SL410 (2874), and I replaced the Pentium T4400 CPU with a Core 2 T9400. The laptop turns on for a few seconds, nothing shows on the screen, and then it shuts off...
Now this document specifies that the T9600 is compatible with it:

I thought maybe Lenovo implemented some sort of CPU whitelist, but I tried a Core 2 T8100, and that booted up fine (But is not specified in the list). Plus, I'm pretty sure I've seen reports that T9400 worked on an SL410/510 L410/510.
So is my CPU bad, or what?
Thanks
P.S. If anyone wants to take a look at the BIOS, it can be downloaded here:

Anyone?
Surely somebody has tried to upgrade to a 1066 FSB CPU on this model? Is the fact that it's GL40 the problem? I've read reports of some GL40 models accepting the upgrade... At the same time, I'm aware that certain SL410/SL510 are not GL40 but GM45/PM45, so that might explain it.
I'm tempted to try a T9600, but I have to buy one. -
To answer my own question:
I'm begining to strongly suspect that the GL40 version of the SL410/SL510/L410/L510 will not support 1066mhz FSB CPUs... Now I've heard unconfirmed claims that GL40 has been known to support 1066mhz in certain cases, but if this was the case, then this SL410 would be a prime candidate, seeing as how it's got DDR3 memory.
Having said that, I understand that the SL410/SL510/L410/L510 come in different varieties. Mine is a 2874, but it is possible that other numbers use the GM45 chipset instead of the GL40, and that is why certain people claim they had success.
I must also consider that there is a remote chance that while the T9400 may not work on my particular model (Who knows, maybe it has something to do with the 9.5x multiplier), the T9600 might, because the Lenovo document I referenced in my first post does indeed state this.
While I don't expect many people to be reading this post, I hope that in the future, should anyone take the plunge and fork over the cash for the T9600 to experiment, they might stumble upon this thread and post the results.
Cheers.
P.S. One thing I would like to add, is that my model would also not accept known good 2 x 4GB DDR3 modules. At the time I ascribed the cause to having something to do with the high density RAM (4 ICs per side, as opposed to 8, with a total of 16), but now I know that the GL40 will not work with more than 4GB of RAM. This is mentioned in the product brief here:

In conclusion, be aware of which chipset your 410/510 has. They come in different varieties.Last edited: Apr 19, 2015
