I noticed that everyone who has the T61p and games with it complains about heat issues. I was wondering if a cooler would help at all? I have the Zalman one and I think that its beautiful. I'm ordering the T61p soon but had this cooler for my other laptop. So I just wondered if this would help even the slightest bit.

I'm told that certain coolers make almost no difference in temperature. There's the thermaltake one that everyone will recommend, but it's more of a heat sink or spreader than a heat dissipator; IOW, heat builds up in it. There's a vantec one with two 80x10mm fans, so that should be quieter (the larger the fans, the better). The Zalman is a good solution for having the laptop on a desk, but other solutions are more portible.

A cooler could help if there are stability issues, but there shouldn't be. Stability issues means it is improperly or defectively cooled. A laptop cooler may help reduce the internal fan usage, and help prevent burning a lap. TPFancontrol can force the internal fan on maximum if you're worried about stability in games.

As an aside, I think Zalman's laptop cooler looked like an attempt to make money in a profitable area, rather than innovating anything.

I've owned atleast 5 notebook coolers, lapcool2, lapcool 4, zalman nc-1000(?), antec, targus, etc... Although i am using the Zalman right now, the lapcool 2 seems to work the best out of all. This zalman works okay, but it looks damn sweet... The lapcool2 kept the bottom of my notebook cool.

interesting feedback and thanks for it. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens when I actually order it. Hopefully I will have my money by the end of the month.

i honestly don't see a need for a cooler with the t61...it has the most revolutionary cooling system and it really doesnt get hot..maybe just warm after a few hours of use...I use it on the bed all the time...thank god there is no fan intake on the bottom
