I was using my T42 one day and the next day it wouldn't boot up. Thought it was battery connection as it was sensitive and alters between supply/battery even with slight movement.
It makes buzzing sound but nothing on screen. HD led is not on. I changed the battery. Now its just 'Z' Led on and the battery.

    Is it dead for good?

    Thanks

Does the notebook not startup at all, and is there anything displayed on the screen? Try and run the notebook on AC power, with the battery removed.

iffy, I will try this out today. I have recently added new memory but this is not like in last 2 months.
Zero - no I do not see anything on the screen and it will not run with battery removed. I replaced the battery and still the same deal.

    Will update you guys. Thanks

    New symptoms:
As soon as juice ran out of replacement battery the laptop is dead again. This time it tries to boot up for 1sec and goes down with battery flashing. Happens when AC power is connected, which points problem somewhere else than battery.
    Any suggestions?
Iffy - FYI, I tried to replace the memory chip but couldn't go far because of this error.

It may be a short in the power line. i currently have a dell with similar symptoms, but I am just going to replace it. Something to try though is taking out the battery and unpluging the comp, then hold down the power button for 30 secs. Plug in the power and battery and see if that does anything. With my dell that will get it to boot though it will typically shut down after a little while.

Perhaps there is something wrong with the adapter.
