    Laptop Names?

    I've seen a few people name their laptops. I was wondering if anyone on here has and if there was a special reason for the name. Just curious.

    I name my computers for organization purposes. Since I don't work for an organization in IT it doesn't make sense to name them things like RM55PC2 so I name them simple names much like processors have codenames. I don't use human names like "Fred" because that's just stupid. I also don't refer to my laptop or anything I own as a him or a her that also just stupid. But something like "Niagra" would be likely. However, I'll never tell anyone the names of my computers. That's private :).

    Good one, I bet some people that ordered a T61p are thinking that.

    As for origin of names, I think it came from people needing to name computers on their home network.

    I do agree that its weird naming your computer human or pet names, its not like you're gonna need to call it to come to you :p

    Since I'm a bit of a BattleStar Galactica freak, my lappy is "Galactica", the tried and true workhorse that sticks around. The desktop is mostly just a windoze gaming rig, so I named it after, BSG Pegasus, since it was a newer, and much larger battlestar. The server is called, "Caprica" after the main homeworld.

    Once my and daughter are old enough to build their own PCs I will probably flip over to a new naming scheme based on nordic gods. Thor (work horse lappy), Loki (Game rig), Fenris(son of Loki will be son's), Valkyrie (daughter's machine...though not really a nordic god) Valhalla (server), etc

    Yeah, its dumb, but its a bit fun :-D

    I thought about naming mine after BSG .... we'll see what happens when I get my dell. I'll end up putting a BSG sticker on the back

    yes I am also a bsg freak ... 5foot poster that I have tells me so :D
