I have to leave my laptop in the car for several hours at a time .The temprature drops to -25 celcius sometimes . Will the cold weather damage the LCD ?I am not planning on using it in that temprature .How long do I wait before using it after it has been in that cold temprature .

i havent got a clue but id think leaving it in the cold would be alot better than leaving it in heat, but you might experience slow boot ups. but i think im just guessing, that once it got started the cold would help cool down the processor and such.

I am also curious about this question myself, living in Canada, temperatures get down to about there on the worst of days. I know leaving the notebook in hot weather (ie hot car in the summer), is not good, and my cell phones display acts strange after it has been in the cold for some time (goes back to normal though).

im thinkin its not bad once it starts up but probably with it being so cold it would have a slow boot up.

maybe this should be moved to the hardware forum, it would get more views that way and hopefully a anwser.

The hard drive is actually going to be the place that will have issues if it uses fluid bearings. The fluid will actually get too thick for the platters to spin freely.

Freezing temps no. I was looking a lot at doing a carputer setup for a while and that was one of the biggest concerns on the MP3car forums about cold climates.

so it would happen even before the freezing point?

maybe someone could put some of them hand warmers or heating packs or something at the hdd to keep it work i dont know if that would work or not.

Sounds like a bit much too keep a hard drive from freezing. Just keep the notebook alongside you :D. That is, unless you work in the outdoors when it is 25 degrees below 0.

You should be fine. Just make sure you don't use the laptop until it reaches room temperature. Thinkpad is designed to operate in tough conditions, but like all laptops, be reasonable ;)

I downloaded the ThinkPad T60 Service and Troubleshooting Guide for your notebook model (2007-72U) from Lenovo support. On page 74 you find the following:

    Environment - Temperature:
    Not operating: 5° to 43°C (41° to 110°F)

This indicates that, no, it is not okay to store your notebook at temperatures below freezing.
