Battery capacity indicator. I don't know how to use it, but I think there's something you can press on the battery and it will tell you the current capacity of the battery, like is it 80% charged (means 20% used up, etc)

Are you talking about the Z-looking LED? That's the Power LED, it'll light up whenever your computer is on.

The Z one means that the machine is powered on. Battery means the battery is installed and operating the machine (unless the plug icon is lit too). The battery changes color if the charge level is low or if it is charging. It blinks when it's trickle charging.

In sleep mode the half moon led to the right of the plug icon will illuminate steadily.

is that info about the Z true?

that's what i originally thought, but someone had mentioned to me that the Z refers to the ultrabay.

The ultrabay has a green light beside the bay that's on constantly (powered up or sleep, but not when hibernated or off).

    "powered up or sleep"

I've always though that was bizarre sleep behavior.

Here's a question for ya, what does it mean when the two antenna lights (the two isolated on the far left of the row, one has a box around the waves, the other doesn't) are lit at the same time? Before I reformated my T61, it was always either one or the other that would be lit, but not at the same time.

    Happy new years btw!

The one on the very left is wireless lan (triangle surrounded by waves), the next one on the right of it is Bluetooth. You can turn them on/off by pressing Fn+F5, you need to have on the following two things from lenovo software installed to make Fn+F5 work if it isn't working : Hotkey and OnScreen Display.

laptopguru, thanks for the clarification. i must have misread a post somewhere, then. that makes so much more sense (cuz i remember thinking that my girlfriends x61s w/o an ultrabay had that "z" LED).

Right, my X61t does as well. The Z is on the unit, the ultrabay LED is on the Ultrabase.... which rarely gets used :)
